Lively Barcelona – Experience the magic and wonder of Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and lots more!

[Music] Barcelona is alive with music with dancing and more [Music] dancing Barcelona is alive with art with play with people [Music] so we’re in Barcelona and I want to tell you a secret it’s the secret of the disappearing bus route it’s this bus route right here 116 and there’s the bus oh excuse me this bus go goes to parkw it’s the number two parel on a tourist attraction parkwell is a park and Monument complex designed by godi now how did this bus and this bus route disappear well this bus used to be packed with tourists because this is the way to park well the locals thought they were being crowded off of their own bus so they went to the city council the city council contacted Google Maps and Apple Maps and had this bus route had this bus disappear from Google Maps and Apple Maps and hence disappear from the tourists so here’s our question should we risk offending the locals and hop on the bus okay if you insist all aboard [Music] [Music] so we all did it we survived the Forbidden bus kind of anti-climatic we’re at parked well now do I feel bad or that I trespassed on the locals by riding that bus no um people in Barcelona are friendly warm I think that one little thing about a bus doesn’t really matter and also the barcelonian have something to Envy right they live in a place where people want to visit that means they live in a good place so let’s visit this good place and let’s start with Godby and parkwell at Park gell godi designed Whimsy playfulness [Music] fantasy even with the crowds The Joy still comes [Music] through one last photo for us as we’re on our way to sagata [Music] Familia the exterior of sagata Familia includes beautiful sculpture and skyscraping Towers body designed so that the stained glass windows would paint the walls with color [Music] the curving columns are trees which branch out and with leaves at the [Music] top it’s like we’re not in a building but in the world’s largest [Music] sculpture think of The Audacity Of God’s ambition the reach of his dream most Cathedrals have one Tower or two godi wanted 18 towers and he is going to get them God’s dream has survived a century of changing religious attitudes a civil war Franco’s 40-year dictatorship instead of God’s dream perhaps we should call this place God’s miracle this was Anthony godi day for us and we’re left breathless not Not only was he an architect he was a genius he created art that’s not just beautiful but stimulating and gives you life makes you feel alive he was an engineer the engineering in this place is incredible done somehow by him with mathematics before computers and he was a magician he passed away and yet he created something that people recognize as being so worthwhile that his dream is still being built [Music] [Music] today I’m here at the general atat the seat of government for the region of Catalonia a lot of the news from spainish in recent years has been some catalonians wanting Independence the catalonian government even sponsored a vote a few years ago on the issue of catalonian Independence now that did not go well the king got mad the feds from Madrid moved in shut down the vote and the Catalonia leadership was either arrested and they’re still in jail or fled to Belgium so like wow this is a crazy thing to happen in the 21st century I’m thinking what would it be like if my governor in the United States had to flee to Canada so I wanted to look into this and I read some books and listened to some podcasts by American commentators and their answer was that catalonian Independence was a fake issue drummed up by politicians and that was probably what occurred to them because if they’re Americans they’re used to fake issues that’s what we have some in the United States but I’ve learned that catalonian Independence is not something to be scoffed at I mean yes it’s not practical but the roots of catalonian nationalism and culture go deep it was explained to me by a local that when I was in Granada Porta Seville I was in Spain and now that I’m in Barcelona I’m in Catalonia like a different place Catalonia has been on the losing end of a couple of civil wars and they’ve got kicked around quite a bit from that at the end of the last Civil War the dictator Franco took the catalonian leadership out to the countryside and shot them and Franco did his best to suppress the catalonian language and catalonian culture what really caught my attention was the catalonian nationalism of Anthony godi if there is a Catalan Superman godi is it when the king came to visit God’s Cathedral God he was supposed to speak to the king in castian Spanish but he would only speak in catalon God he was even beaten up for being in the neighborhood of a couple of pro bonian demonstrations and he was even put in jail once so if anyone can make us respect catalonian culture and nationalism it’s it’s Gody and this obviously is a long running thing God’s been gone for like 100 years so the news from Spain I don’t think is going to change and stay tuned for more news [Music] this is the plaza de toras Arenas over my shoulder it’s a bull fighting arena which dates from 1927 let’s go take a look at it now surprise I love this in 2011 the bull fighting arena was turned into a shopping mall complete with you can hear them the kids playing downstairs good for you Barcelona Catalonia and Barcelona have a lot to be proud of for being against bull fighting in 2010 Catalonia passed a law making bull fighting illegal in Catalonia now there’s this tension always between the national government in Madrid in Catalonia so in 200 13 the national government passed a law stating that gold fighting was part of the cultural heritage of all Spaniards and that law was used by a court in Madrid to reverse Catalonia’s ban on bull fighting that is the court in Madrid ordered that bull fighting was legal in Catalonia but despite that bull fighting has never come back in Catalonia what do the catalonians the barcelonian do instead of attending bull fights on thinking maybe go to the movies or go shopping so we’ve really enjoyed Barcelona and to help you enjoy Barcelona too now I know my videos are not for everybody but you’re not everybody so please like And subscribe [Music] [Music]
