Seville, Spain has it all! It is a vibrant city, the capital of Andalucia, a rich history and a warm, dry climate! The architecture here is amazing and there is a lively culture.
In this video we highlight the Seville Cathedral. Seville Cathedral is the largest gothic Cathedral in the world and recognized as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is very doable to tour both in a day.
“Let us build a church so beautiful and so grand that those who see it finished will think we are mad!” The actual entry from 8 July 1401, recorded among others by Juan Cean Bermudes in 1801 but now lost. These words, however, said by the church elders, according to legend, became a truth! The Seville Cathedral is unlike any other Cathedral you will visit. Started in 1401 and taking over a century to complete, this Cathedral is a work of art!
Originally it was the site of the Almohad mosque but those in charge of the Catholic kingdom took over, they decided to build the largest Cathedral in the world to showcase their wealth and importance to the rest of the world. You can still see parts of the original mosque. The Giralda Belltower was the minaret of the mosque and was converted to be the Cathedral’s bell tower.
Inside you will find the tomb of Christopher Columbus, The Great Chapel and Alterpiece, which is the largest alterpiece in the world.
Around every corner is another wonder and/or treasure to behold! There is so much to see and you are sure to find something that will leave you speechless!
