Infanta Sofía Presides Her First Solo Event | Photography Contest Awards Ceremony 2024
**Infanta Sofía Presides Over Her First Solo Event**
The youngest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia has begun her Christmas holidays this week at UWC Atlantic College in Wales.
In recent years, Infanta Sofía (17) has taken her first steps in institutional engagements, always accompanied by the Royal Family. However, as she approaches adulthood, a pivotal moment has arrived: her first solo engagement, without her parents or sister. Dedicated to the Crown, with a strong sense of duty, Sofía has embarked on her independent agenda starting December 13 with the presentation of the *Objetivo Patrimonio* Awards, part of the Infanta Sofía Photography Contest.
All eyes were on the Royal Collections Gallery, the venue for this highly anticipated debut. The event began shortly after 5:00 PM, offering insights into her personal tastes and interests. The second in line to the throne has a passion for photography, art, fashion, and sports, alongside being an excellent student. Known for her independent, empathetic, and contagiously joyful nature, she exudes a growing personal style, keeping up with trends and making them her own.
For this important occasion, Infanta Sofía chose a two-piece white suit with a double-breasted jacket from *Woman by El Corte Inglés,* echoing the style of her mother, Queen Letizia, and her sister, Princess Leonor. She paired the outfit with flat shoes and wore her long hair loose.
The event began with remarks from Ana de la Cueva, President of National Heritage:
“Thank you all for being here, at the youngest heritage competition, in the youngest museum of our country, with the youngest member of the Royal Family supporting and showing that the Crown continues to back the royal collections and our heritage.”
Next, photographer Sofía Moro, representing the jury, took the stage, saying:
“I believe there’s no better way to approach the world than through photography. For me, photography is also about understanding, as photographers have the privilege of seeing the world uniquely and differently. That’s exactly what the award winners have done.”
Shortly before 5:30 PM, Infanta Sofía took the stage to present the awards. The event concluded with a performance by singer Marina Lledó and violinist Melanie, featuring a medley that ended with Juanes’ song *Fotografía.* The artists received warm congratulations from the King and Queen’s daughter.
The museum, located near the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral, hosted the awards ceremony organized by National Heritage. The competition was divided into three categories: Palaces and Monasteries, Natural Spaces, and Works of Art. In addition to the top three winners in each category, the top ten finalists received certificates of recognition. The jury highlighted the difficulty in selecting winners due to the high level of quality and technical diversity demonstrated by participants.
This first edition of the awards, named after Infanta Sofía, was established to promote and share the country’s rich historical, cultural, and natural heritage through photography. The contest received over 250 submissions between April 18 (International Day for Monuments and Sites) and September 30. Participants were required to share their images on social media using the hashtag #ObjetivoPatrimonio, featuring spaces or works managed by the Royal Collections.
In June, during the tenth anniversary of King Felipe VI’s reign, it became evident that the future of the Crown rests with Leonor and Sofía de Borbón. The younger daughter of the King and Queen is poised to play a significant role and is determined to prepare herself as best as possible to support the institution. While her future academic path is still undecided (it’s uncertain if she will undergo military training), her decisions will always prioritize how she can contribute to the Royal Family.
This Friday’s event serves as a testament to her strong commitment.
