Plaza de Espana, Sevilla – Spain 4K Travel Channel

One cannot think up a more beautiful setting for a movie like the Plaza de Espana in Seville. It was the film set for star Wars Saga Episode II: Attack of the Clones by George Lukas, as well as for three other movies
However, the square was not built for the movies. It represented the regionalism architecture at the Ibero-American Exposition World’s Fair in 1929.
The square with a diameter of 200 meters is open to the river, a parabola for the way to America. The semi-circular building symbolizes Spain’s embrace with the former colonies. The square is surrounded by a channel, which is spanned by 4 bridges. The bridges symbolize the former kingdoms of Spain. The walls are decorated with ornaments, each with a historic event and the coat of arms of the 48 provinces.

Offices of the municipal authority, the government and of the armed forces are housed inside the building today.
The Plaza de Espana is very impressive, but at 42 ° C in the shade, it is not a place where we stay for a long time.

Schöner kann man sich eine Filmkulisse nicht ausdenken, wie die Plaza de Espana in Sevilla. Zum Einsatz kam sie in der Star Wars Saga Episode II Angriff der Klonkrieger von George Lukas, aber auch in drei weiteren Kinofilmen.
Doch dafür wurde der Platz nicht erbaut. Er repräsentierte die heimatliche Architektur auf der Iberoamerikanischen Ausstellung im Jahre 1929.
Der Platz mit einem Durchmesser von 200 m ist zum Fluss geöffnet, eine Parabel für den Weg nach Amerika. Das halbkreisförmige Gebäude symbolisiert die Umarmung Spaniens mit den ehemaligen Kolonien.
Der Platz wird von einem Kanal umsäumt, der von 4 Brücken überspannt werden, die die ehemaligen Königreiche Spaniens symbolisieren. An den Wänden sind Ornamente mit jeweils einem historischen Ereignis und dem Wappen einer der 48 Provinzen angebracht.
Im Inneren der Gebäudes sind heute Büros der Stadtverwaltung, der Regierung und vom Militär untergebracht.
So eindrucksvoll die Plaza de Espana in Sevilla auch ist, aber bei 42º C im Schatten ist es für uns kein Ort an dem wir lange verweilen.
