Horsetail FallsFlows overthe eastern edge ofElCapitanIn YosemiteValley #yosemitevalley #rivercanyon

It’s that time of year again. When the setting sun hits Horsetail Falls at just the right angle, a rare phenomenon occurs that makes the water appear to glow orange or gold, just like lava!Horsetail Falls flows over the eastern edge of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. This small waterfall usually only flows in the winter and can be easily missed. On rare occasions in mid to late February, it glows orange when backlit by sunset. This unique lighting effect only occurs in the evenings when the falls are flowing and the sky is clear.Even some haze or light clouds will greatly reduce or eliminate the impact.
