The Cremà of the Fallas in Gandia is the grand finale of this festival, celebrated annually on March 19, Saint Joseph’s Day. On this night, the fallas monuments are consumed by flames in a tradition that symbolizes renewal and the passage of time.

The festivities begin on March 15 with the Plantà, when more than twenty fallas, including children’s monuments, are installed throughout the streets of Gandia. These monuments, made from combustible materials and featuring ninots (figures that make up the scenes), often have a satirical nature, representing everyday life, social critiques, or political themes.

In the days leading up to the Cremà, various festive events take place, such as concerts, mascletàs (daytime pyrotechnic displays), and parades. On March 19, activities include a mass in honor of Saint Joseph, followed by the final mascletà in the Town Hall Square.

The Cremà itself begins on the night of March 19. In Gandia, the burning of the children’s fallas usually starts around 9:00 PM, followed by the Cremà of the larger fallas at staggered times. The falla that won first prize is typically the last to burn, around 1:30 AM, marking the official end of the festivities.

In 2025, the Vilanova Falla won first prize in the Special Section, both for the Children’s Monument and the Main Monument, solidifying its reputation as one of Gandia’s most outstanding commissions.

The Cremà not only signifies the end of the festivities but also serves as a moment of reflection on the fleeting nature of life and the opportunity to rise from the ashes, preparing for a new festive cycle in the coming year.

La Cremà de las Fallas de Gandía es el broche de oro de estas fiestas, que se celebran anualmente el 19 de marzo, día de San José. Esa noche, los monumentos falleros son consumidos por las llamas, una tradición que simboliza la renovación y el paso del tiempo.

Las fiestas comienzan el 15 de marzo con la Plantà, cuando más de veinte fallas, incluyendo monumentos infantiles, se instalan por las calles de Gandía. Estos monumentos, hechos de materiales combustibles y con ninots (figuras que componen las escenas), suelen tener un carácter satírico, representando la vida cotidiana, la crítica social o temas políticos.

En los días previos a la Cremà, se celebran diversos actos festivos, como conciertos, mascletàs (espectáculos pirotécnicos diurnos) y pasacalles. El 19 de marzo, entre las actividades se incluye una misa en honor a San José, seguida de la mascletà final en la plaza del Ayuntamiento.

La Cremà comienza la noche del 19 de marzo. En Gandia, la quema de las fallas infantiles suele empezar sobre las 21:00, seguida de la Cremà de las fallas mayores en horarios escalonados. La falla ganadora del primer premio suele ser la última en quemarse, sobre la 1:30, marcando el fin oficial de las fiestas.

En 2025, la Falla de Vilanova ganó el primer premio en la Sección Especial, tanto por el Monumento Infantil como por el Monumento Principal, consolidando su reputación como uno de los encargos más destacados de Gandia.

La Cremà no sólo significa el final de las festividades sino que también sirve como un momento de reflexión sobre la fugacidad de la vida y la oportunidad de resurgir de las cenizas, preparándose para un nuevo ciclo festivo en el año que viene.
