It’s BASQUE, not Spain

Simple answer: pintxos and sidra.
Complex answer: Basque is truly one of the most unique places in Europe.Located in the western Pyrenees mountains that spans parts of northern Spain and southwestern France, it’s culturally distinct with its own language, Basque (Euskara),and boasts rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, and beautiful landscapes.

San Sebastián has been high on my bucket list to travel because it’s renowned for food scene and highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants per capita in the world.

What characterizes Basque cuisine is in the high quality of local ingredients. Surrounded by oceans and pastures, there’s an abundance of amazing produce ranging from the freshest seafood to fine meats. It’s also important to note that restaurant La Viña in San Sebastián is the birthplace of THE Basque cheesecake as well.

Pintxos culture in the Basque Country is about enjoying small, tasty bites on sticks. I like to call it the final boss of girl dinner and it’s a fun way to experience Basque hospitality and food traditions.

I loved being able to go on a road trip around San Sebastián, Bilbao, and Vitoria. I know it’s not as popular as major cities / southern beach costal cities like Malaga but personally it was my favorite part of the journey.

If there’s 2 things to takeaway from this video, it’s this
Pintxos and Sidra

  1. Los vascongados somos españoles, no te confundas, nuestra cultura es intrínseca a la española al igual que nuestra historia. Quien diga lo contrario es un ignorante.

  2. It's offensive to me to say that Spain is this fixed things. My roots are in Burgos, and that's very different from Analucia, Galicia or Canarias, but that doesn't mean that it's not Spain. Spain is a group of stuff. We are not a steriotipe, a simple thing that you can draw.

  3. great video, but I must make a correction. Apples are the genus Malus and Quince are the genus cydonia…not related. Just saying because the classification of plants are as important as the variables in food and wine. Thanks for taking me on an adventure

  4. As a Spaniard I always find pretty depressing when I see reels/shorts of people talking about Spanish food and it's always tortilla, croquetas, churros and paella. It's such a weak representation of Spanish traditional food (paella is pretty good, but the other 3 are average at best). This video is a much better representation of our food, and it's only a small fraction of it.

  5. I grew up in Texas, and Spanish is like a second language to me. I've always hated the way it sounds with the Mexican dialect, but it sounds so beautiful with a Spanish (I know this is Basque country, but just saying in general) dialect.

I'm saying this because my initial thought was "Aren't you American? Shouldn't you already know Spanish?" but the US is such a huge country that I doubt it would make sense for a New Yorker to bother even knowing it. Knowing Spanish and English helps out so much with Portuguese, and French. It's a solid one to learn if you want to get around in Europe.

  6. It's ridiculous to think that the Basques aren't Spanish. They probably were thousands of years ago, but today the Basques are a mixture of everything, just like all Spaniards. When the Iberian Peninsula was under Muslim rule, the Kings of all Iberia united to expel them, among them the King of Navarre. Great figures of the Middle Ages and great explorers of America were from the Basque Country and defended Spain with honor. The desire for an independent Basque country is a story made up by current politicians so they can make more money and have more power. But a Basque has been Spanish for centuries, and they are also very proud of being Spanish. The manipulation of the population has done a lot of damage today.

  7. They do identify spanish. Exactly 50% of last elections said that! So, sorry for your percepction.
Diferent is that most of the rest of Spaniards detest them!😂😂😂

  8. Love this video, Long shot here I know but I don’t suppose you know the name of the shop you bought the cider glasses in San Sebastián on or the general area I might find it/street etc?
