Seville – Sevilla – Spain City Guide – @realspain by Nigel Baker

[Music] okay we’re here in Seville and this is behind me is Seville Cathedral the third biggest third-largest in Christendom massively important in the Roman Catholic world it’s the place of the baptism of one of aragon the only son of Isabel and Ferdinand and inside they’ve got the remains of Christopher Columbus and it was started in the early 1400s finished in the early 16th century massively important right around this side we’ve got the Alcazar which is the home of the royal family when they visit Seville the royal palaces inside the Alcazar and it dates back to ancient times really important really historic fantastic City [Music] okay the Giralda another cathedral is a hundred and four metres high it is ramped so you could go up there on a donkey or a horse if you wanted to I don’t sure they allow that in the in the modern day some say you’d have to be a bit mad or foolhardy to go up there in the middle of summer instead you could go up the Metropole parasol known as beset us or mushrooms it’s the largest wooden building in the world and it does have a lift to the top so you don’t have to do the genuine walking all the way to the top and it’s a great view from the top as well [Music] the kapooya del Carmen is they say the smallest church in the world chapel in the world it’s there on the riverbank so the sailors could pray before they set sail for a safe voyage and safe return [Music] [Music] they say that Seville has more bars than any other city in the world I can quite believe it it’s hard to recommend any in particular because they’re just so many but one that stands out would be Rincon Sileo which claims to be the oldest tapas bar in the world worth checking out the top tourist attractions in Seville the must-see visits up are the Cathedral obviously with the Giralda which of course was built as a minaret for the Great Mosque which now bell tower the plaza de espana where they filmed some of the film Lawrence of Arabia and it’s been used for the game of Thrones it was built for the Iberia America Exposition of 1929 which was commissioned by alfonso xiii and he decided that there was no suitable accommodation for the top people that visit to the city then so he commissioned the hotel which bears his name the alfonso xiii hotel is now truly one of the best hotels in the world a fantastic place to say stay a beer or a coffee might set you back two or three times what it would normally cost on the street but believe me it’s well worth it [Music] [Music]

visit Carmona… Parador

Our recommendations for food and drink in Seville

A tourist must (for a quick visit) is El Rinconcillo, claims to be the oldest tapas bar in the world. Not too far from the Metropol Parasol.(las Setas)… gets busy, not always open so check first. https://maps.app.goo.gl/NrDxbHhaKQmxWeFJ9

https://maps.app.goo.gl/NrDxbHhaKQmxWeFJ9 We’ve visited Maria Trifulcar many times for drinks and tapa…it’s next to the Puenta de Isabel bridge opposite the main market (which has a nice little cafe)  and Capilla Virgin del Carmen (Claims to be the smallest church in the world…. used by sailors before epic voyages).

On that side of the river are traditional tapas bars…  El Candil Tirana https://maps.app.goo.gl/Gw8eawbZbdRKwHc86

…and Bodiga Siglo XVIII
https://maps.app.goo.gl/mryZkqed86cmKTBt8

In the centre close to El Corte Ingles is Bar Rioja
https://maps.app.goo.gl/LuU6x7ceyaVtkhq68 we’ve had a tapa here numerous times.
And the Taberna Matias Cateca is nearby and very traditional too https://maps.app.goo.gl/BzFHKcPDHnpfBe8

Casa Matias is very good too. https://maps.app.goo.gl/g5UVUs7Gows7X4kx8

The Antigua Bodeguita has featured in quite a few TV travel shows… it’s in a great area with a good atmosphere, I would recommend for a drink.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/ctidCD6DQvdusbvH6

Bar El Comercio is traditional.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/JFVwoHLAe1ZNWpS29

Casa Plácido is traditional and good for a tapa (chickpeas and spinach) https://maps.app.goo.gl/VbBZ3UcoWCVeVSi47

Bar Estrella Tapas is good if you are in that area

https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZvCoLookuSJfd2wg8

The area round Hercules Square is where the locals go… it’s the best value for eating… We’ve eaten in this area many times, Here is one… but there are many. https://maps.app.goo.gl/6RkoAfVXKVwj4H6L9

Close by is the best restaurant we’ve found

https://maps.app.goo.gl/TLNNjPA3RXU6Utos5

La Azotea, La Tienda Tapas.

In the evening (the Spanish dine late) the area on the North side of the cathedral – C Àlvarez Quintero – has dozens of restaurants… it can get very busy. It’s OK…

Bar Maestro Marcelino near the cathedral has orange wine… (vino de naranja) – featured in Michael Portillo’s Andalucia TV programme – We definitely recommend you try a glass… https://maps.app.goo.gl/z49YN6pxAXa4X2dy9

This Bar / restaurant in a great little square 5 minutes from the Plaza de Armas bus station served very reasonable priced food… We’ve been back several times.

Lastly …There is the Americano bar in the Hotel Alfonso or the Michelin star Abantal restaurant  if you really want to push the boat out.
