Hiking the Entire Tahoe Rim Trail | 170 Miles Around Lake Tahoe

Well, it feels pretty surreal to be saying this, but I’m out here on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Taken me about 3 days travel to get here. Stayed in uh Tahoe City last night. Prepared everything. Did my food shop. And now I’m about to start walking. This is big. This is really big. [Music] Look how big these things are. [Music] Hey bear. Hey bear. Hey bear. Hey bear. [Music] Hey bear. Hey bear. Hey bear. [Music] [Music] Hey bear. [Music] Bye bear. [Music] Wow. My first bear encounter. That was crazy. I could just hear like that rustling as I was walking up the trail. And then as I looked up, I just see this big bear rumaging in the uh ground. He was unbothered by me getting on with his own stuff. What’s more bothersome is these mosquitoes. So I want to keep moving. Every time I stop to latch on to me. [Music] [Music] Good morning. This is the beginning of day two. Yesterday was pretty hard to climb out of Tahoe City. I did about 14 trail miles. quite a bit more actual miles from leaving the hotel to get up here. But I was exhausted. My pack’s so heavy with this bear canister and all the food. But I camped at uh Watson Lake last night. I couldn’t find any water till I got to this point. So I’ve uh replenished here. I’ve got uh 2 L in the pack and a little bit of my B3. So, that’ll keep me going, but absolutely gorgeous. I cannot believe I’m out here. The sun’s just coming up. Going to try and get some uh miles in before it gets too hot cuz today there’s a lot more elevation. [Music] Hey. Hey. Hey. [Music] Today’s been hard going. Quite a lot of elevation. Tomorrow I’m going to hit the highest point on the trail, which is the rever peak. I’m going to not going to do too much more today. Going to camp on a ridge line. Few more miles, but I’m just going to uh sit here and take in the magnificent views. This is the most unreal thing I’ve ever seen in my life. This place is just [Music] beyond beautiful. I’m so glad I uh came out here. Took a lot uh a lot of anxiety about it and stuff. Mainly the travel. But once I started making my way out here, everything just felt so right. This is where I should be. [Music] So, yesterday afternoon was pretty eventful. I’m up on the Mount Baldi ridge line. I’ve camped here last night cuz uh a little storm rolled in. The weather started changing. The wind started picking up. So, I uh found somewhere to pitch up in between some trees, get a little bit of shelter from it, and yeah, just hunkered down. So, I’ve had quite a lot of rest. Just chilling in the tent. It rained a little bit, but nothing too bad. It’s about4 to 6:00 in the morning now, so I’m going to get moving again. Like I say, I’m on the Mount Baldi ridge line. Just down there is the California Nevada uh border. So, I’m crossing into Nevada in a minute, which is pretty cool to say. And uh yeah, some elevation to start off with. I’m going to hit Relay Peak, the highest point on the trail. I’ve got everything packed up from last night. I’m going to get moving [Music] into Nevada. Here I go [Music] back to California. [Music] [Music] [Music] behind the drill in front. Running warm water now, but there’s a spring not too far. So, I really hope I can uh replenish my water from there. If not, I’m going to have to back tack to that way, but we’ll see. It’s quite hard to see the LC. [Music] It’s just recording video. Okay. So, uh, a lot of my stuff got wet. I managed to pitch the tent up. Let me say died off now, but there’s mosquitoes everywhere. Just been killing all the ones that actually managed to get inside the tent. But yeah, what a nightmare. I think I’m going to try and get up super early in the morning and just start moving. my unit. Kept hearing them like round and round and [Music] It’s gone like real black there. I’ve been ramming the camera in there. It’s got some charge in there. Um, I’m going to dump that [ __ ] I’ve had Starbucks this morning. Uh, can’t really get tea, so I had a matcha, which was nice. Tent’s there. It was a bit wet. It’s getting sorted out. I hiked the entire 170-mile Tahoe Rim Trail around Lake Tahoe — solo and carrying everything on my back. This trail circles the largest alpine lake in North America and passes through the Sierra Nevada wilderness, including Desolation Wilderness, Mount Rose Wilderness, and breathtaking ridge lines with constant lake views.
