Glacier Point – Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, California wonderland

Glacier Point, an overlook with a commanding view of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and the High Sierra is located 30 miles (one hour) from Yosemite Valley. The road ends at Glacier Point and it is a short walk to the viewpoint.

How to reach
In the summer, Glacier Point is roughly a one-hour drive from Tenaya at Yosemite. Take Wawona Road until you reach the Chinquapin intersection, where you will then turn onto Glacier Point Road. Glacier Point is 16 miles from Chinquapin.

Why is it called Glacier point
Geology. The extreme point of the promontory of Glacier Point is wholly bare, but on the slopes below, in the hollow to the west, and on the wooded slope above, glacial material is abundant. Its glacial origin is definitely proved by the presence in it of rocks derived from Little Yosemite Valley and the Sierra Nevada.
