SHR – Minarets Section
[Music] [Music] [Music] Welcome back to another adventure. On this trip, we’re heading into the minouetses. You can see right behind me. On this trip, we’re going to be following Roer Sierra High up to Superior Lake over Nancy Pass down into Minetes Lake, Cecil Lake, Iceberg Lake, a Daiso Lake, and then looping back. It’s going to be a beautiful trip. I’m glad you’re with me, and as always, let’s roll. Well, hey gang, guess who’s back with me? It’s Sunduk. So, I finally dragged her back out and we’re heading out on the Sierra High together. Oops. Sorry. Say hi. Hi. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] That’s funny. You get ready. [Music] Well, hey gang. Welcome to Superior Lake. Not to be confused with Lake Superior. It’s not that anybody would make that confusion. Uh hey, but it’s a beautiful little lake and uh we got a nice little campsite here that we found. Uh we headed up here today from um uh I think it’s called Horseshoe Lake Trail Head at Horseshoe Lake um just past Lake Mary. Um and largely we did that because this time of the year there’s no way to to get in here during weekdays. I think on weekends you can drive in or drive out, but on weekdays the Red’s Meadow Road is closed because they’re still doing some road reconstruction there. So anyway, we parked there. We hiked down to Red’s Meadow from there, which is about 4 miles, and then up here to um Superior Lake, just a little bit, I think, east of Beck Lake. So, 12 and a half miles, about 3,000 ft of gain. It was a great day, and uh feeling good. Looking forward uh to tomorrow, which is our cross country day of this trip. Um over Nancy Pass, and then we’ll be following the Sierra High along the base of the Minoretses. It’s going to be beautiful. So, Oh, nothing like a hot cup of coffee in this year in the morning. [Music] That’s Nancy Pass. That is not Nancy Pass. This actually looked pretty Pretty trivial actually. [Music] [Music] There’s nobody here. In the background, [Music] there’s a north side of Nancy Pass. [Music] and my partner coming down there on the left hand side. [Music] This was messy. This was a messy descent. Another view of the north side of Nancy Pass. We came down on the left hand side because we’re stupid, but I don’t know that there’s a good way down. [Music] Well, hey gang. We are at Minouret Lake and as you can see behind me, the weather has rolled in. It’s about 2:00 in the afternoon or I think 2:30 and uh hey, Nancy Pass was tough. Uh but we were really looking forward to getting getting over to Ada, but the weather is telling us uh we better park it. So, we’re taking a taking a break here and uh huddling up underneath our tents for now. And uh just going to wait to see what’s uh what what transpires here. We’ve got thunder already and uh so it’s not looking good. We’ll update you as the uh as the day unfolds. [Music] [Applause] Well, hey gang, that was a whole lot of fun. We just had about a little bit after 5:00 now, and as you can see behind me, the clouds are starting to dissipate and the rain has stopped. So, we’re crawling out of our tents now and uh getting some dinner. But yeah, we’re not we’re not going to continue on to Ada. We’re going to call it a call it a day here today. So, it was a good day. I mean, um Nancy Pass is serious. I think it got everybody’s attention, right? That was a tough hike, huh? Oh, yeah, it is. Yeah, that was tough. Um I think it took us about an hour and a half to get up that up it, but man, it was super tedious coming down. I think it took us a couple hours. I mean, of course, uh, our route probably wasn’t the optimal route and then, you know, I kind of got off route a little bit. So, it took us a lot longer than it probably should have. Um, and that ate up a lot of time. So, you know, it probably was all for the best because if we hadn’t, we probably would have continued on and we would have got caught in that rainstorm somewhere along the side of uh, you know, Cecil Lake or Iceberg Lake or something like that, which wouldn’t have been a whole lot of fun to be honest. So anyway, it it’s uh it was a good day and um yeah, time to eat tonight. Chicken pesto pasta. Chicken pistol pasta. Say that three times fast. Chicken pes. I can’t even say it once. Good morning everybody from Minet Lake. Beautiful morning. Sun’s just coming up. Uh so today the plan is to head uh directly back to the car. Uh we’re not going to continue on to Ada Lake. It’s just it would make a really long day. We didn’t get because of the um situation at Red’s Meadow at the road there. We had, as I mentioned earlier, to park at Horseshoe Horseshoe Meadows or Horseshoe Lake trail head. So that adds about 1500 feet and four miles of walking, which would make the day just prohibitively long. So instead, we’re just going to cut this a bit short, head back to the car from here. Um, it’s going to be a beautiful day. Apparently, uh, no rain today, so that’ll be nice. And, uh, yeah, looking forward to the hike out. I’m sure this is a or somebody put the rock on my back. Oh, I didn’t tell you. Mute. You’re carrying my my bear canister. [Music] [Music] Well, hey gang, we are back in the Reds Meadow Devil’s Post Pile area and that closes the loop for this trip and closes out this adventure. I hope you enjoyed it. I absolutely did. It’s just absolutely stunning out here. Until next time, take care.
Join me and my partner Soonduek as we shoot to complete the Minarets section of the Sierra High Route. Unfortunately, due to weather and our own limited amount of time we could only complete Nancy Pass (Superior Lake to Minarets Lake) leaving the section from Minarets Lake to Ediza for another time. Still, this was a beautiful hike with stunning scenery. I hope you enjoy it!

One wrong choice on a pass, or one unexpected storm can quickly derail a Sierras trip. You had both! It’s happened to me more times than I can count. Great video and beautiful trip.
I fail to see the failure, great looking loop! Awesome shots
Even though you didn't complete your hike, it was still a spectacular hike with some absolutely stunning scenery!! 😊
