Madrid Downtown Walk – Bakeries, Fun Restaurants, Anime & More

Chuck, chuck, chug, chug, chug, chug. [Music] A trip to Madrid can mean different things to many people. It could be a one or two day stop before heading somewhere else in Spain or Europe. It could also be where you come to dive into art and history. Maybe check a few attractions off your bucket list. We like to immerse ourselves, blend in. We come to walk the streets and eat the food. Slow down, look up, take in the vibe, that sort of thing. No matter what you’re into, this city will charm you. Let us share some of what we did on our first full day here. [Music] You got to wait for mama. No, no, we’re going to zero now. Now we’re going to all the floors. Mama. Mommy is in the house. It’s okay. There’s nothing wrong. Now we’re going to stop three times. We’re supposed to go to zero. Bye, guys. You say bye, guys. Still getting the hang of the European elevators. So am I. We here. No, this is the wrong floor. Spain always the first floor is always zero. I keep forgetting. [Music] So, we’re going to have breakfast at one of our favorite cafeterias or bakeries. Panadas. That’s what I should say. We got him from the man. Yeah, let’s go have breakfast. Let’s go. Give it to the fire. Come on. [Music] That’s easy. [Music] [Music] Get away from [Music] an hour. He’s the manager. The manager is coming. [Music] [Music] You like the pigeons? You go. What is Uncle Randy teaching you? Pokemon. Oh my goodness. That’s that’s blastoise. It’s been an ep epic 24 hours. Yeah, it has been an epic 24 hours is we were stressed out because of you know slight issues that we had going to the airport and then arriving we couldn’t find our passport. So a lot of little things that kind of added up and uh we hadn’t slept a lot. So I guess that kind of contributed but uh today we’re taking it kind of like slow and then we’ll slowly ramp up. as the week goes on. And uh Nico saw nuggets and he wanted to eat some at 11:30 in the morning, so we’re going to get him nuggets for breakfast. I know it’s not the healthiest. We’ve tried to get him other stuff, but that’s what we wanted. I think he’s looking for something familiar. Yeah, probably. Yeah, it’s been a lot of new things. [Music] $600. Can you say amigos? You say amigos. Amigos. I think it’s here. This is a historic specialty food shop. Sometimes called ultramarinos or montearia, this one has lots of sweets and pastries from different regions in Spain. The Burmejo family has run this shop since 1924. [Music] Uh, All right. [Music] Kimchi crew. Do you want to look at the restaurants? That is pretty cool. Now, it’s meant to be. It’s meant to be. Oh, is the car coming? Oh, no. You’re almost there. Stop base. [Music] You said, this is a really cool part where we are at. A note that we’ll make is that if you have children, Madrid is incredibly friendly for families. Kids are welcome mostly everywhere with playgrounds next to attractions, special menus with healthy options, and short distances to get to places. [Music] The next spot was absolutely picked with Nico in mind. Okay. Nico, wait. Wait, wait, wait. You get away, mama. Whoa. Wait, look at the princesses. [Music] Okay. [Music] Nico, this is Nikos. [Music] Thank you. [Applause] Hello. It’s close. Yeah. [Music] Oh yeah. [Music] You do check again. Check [Laughter] [Music] You want one? Is that a croeta? I’m going to have one. [Music] young grape. It’s going to be a bit sweeter. It’s not um good. [Music] Is it chocolate? [Music] It’s like a moose with like that cookie bottom. That’s good. [Applause] What was that? [Music] After a well-deserved nap, we headed out to check out a dream store for anime fans. Plus, we found a pretty cool spot for dinner that was not on our radar. to go in. Yeah, we got to go. We’re going to go in there. So, uh, we found out Bandai has a shop here in Madrid and our friend right now loves Bandai and loves Gashapon. So, we’re going to go try to grab some Gashapon and just kind of like check out the store. Maybe we might find some. Let’s see what What do you have to say? Try not to buy too much things space. Okay, got it. Let’s look at it outside first where they created the dragon ball. I saw you from the distance. Hey, you. Can we talk? [Music] Hey, you. I think you’re my sub. Hey, am I wrong? So far, it’s been cool. It’s been really cool. Like I like the Venom section. Nico, tell the camera what which one did you like when you won? [Music] Me, too. How much is it? It’s $200. Oh. Uh, next trip. Somebody got expensive taste. [Music] More than a dream. Hey, are you excited? Yes. I need to go up. All right, you got one. Let’s see what you got. Put it on. You want to put it on? That’s a cool watch. That looks like a TV and not something else. For the number. Let’s try these guys. Well, which one do you want? First of all, I like all of them. I even like that one. I don’t know why you guys hate it. I think it’s going to be like a normal. Fingers crossed. It’s a go. Yay. Yes. Are those cool, Nico? Yeah. I have toys. You have toys? Yeah. Sunset starts around 9:00 p.m. during summer and the city captivates you. People are out and about and the city comes alive. Even the fire department felt magical. dress. [Music] I always taste like Wow. Cheeseburger dump like cheeseburgers. Although our kiddo is often willing to try things, he had met his quota for the day and was craving mommy’s pasta. Luckily, the local convenience store Dia had the next best thing. Macaronom. [Music] Up next, more neighborhood exploring, shopping, and magical castles. So stay tuned. Heat. Heat.

A trip to Madrid can mean many things—whether it’s a quick stop before exploring the rest of Spain, or a deep dive into the city’s food, history, and everyday life. For us, it’s about slowing down, walking the streets, tasting local flavors, and soaking up the vibe. And let me tell you, Madrid’s energy never disappoints.

In our first full day, we explored Puerta del Sol, popped into El Horno de Almudena for fresh pastries, and visited Mantequería Bermejo, a historic ultramarinos that’s been run by the same family since 1924. We also admired the Palacio Real, found kid-friendly fun at Storyland, and checked out the Bandai Namco store (a must for anime lovers). To top it off, we discovered Chung-li Dumplings, a hidden gem for dinner.
