[Music] Making a quick port stop in Mayorca. Here’s what to see and what you can skip on this beautiful Spanish island. And stick around because at the end I’ll tell you about the one thing most cruisers expect to find here, but usually leave disappointed. Definitely see Viamosa. If you want a picture perfect mountain village, Vimosa is the one. Cobblestone streets, stone houses with shuttered windows, and colorful flower pots make it a photographers’s dream. We found a photo opportunity around every corner and were totally charmed. While many of the buildings are hundreds of years old, it’s clear folks here take great pride in their mountain paradise. One reviewer raved, “Myosa is a mustsee on any trip to Mayorca. It feels like a scene from a movie. Definitely save some time to check out the Vimosa Charter House. The town’s most recognizable landmark was built as a royal palace and later served as a monastery. It’s often open for tours. You can skip Bel Belle Castle. Yes, it’s a 14th century castle with an unusual circular design, but if you’ve seen your share of castles in Europe, this one doesn’t bring a whole lot new to the table. On the plus side, we really appreciated the sweeping views of Palma and its beautiful harbor from the castle’s perch. Our verdict, nice if you have extra time, otherwise skip. You’ll want to see Palma Cathedral. In fact, you can’t miss Palma’s massive Gothic cathedral because it dominates the skyline. It took nearly 400 years to complete, and artist Gaudy left his mark inside. One visitor called it the most breathtaking cathedral I’ve ever seen, right by the sea. Even if you only have time to walk around the outside like we did, it’s pretty spectacular. But visitors rave about the beautiful interior as well. See Palma’s Oldtown. If you don’t want to travel far, just stay in Palma, where your ship will be docked. The Oldtown is a maze of narrow streets with cafes, boutiques, and tapus bars. One reviewer said, “Just wandering around the alleys and stumbling on Tapus was the highlight of our day. It’s easy to explore on foot and gives you a real flavor of island life. Definitely worth a see. You can skip beach time on your port stop. Yes, Morca has some of the best beaches in Europe, and views like these are exactly what many cruisers expect to find. But here’s the catch. These famous beaches are far from port in a different part of the island. The ones closest to Port in Palma are decent, but they’re not the dreamy postcard beaches you came for. Our verdict? Save the beaches for a longer vacation. Skip them on a short port day. So, what’s the best way to spend your time in Morca? Head to Vimosa. Don’t miss the cathedral.
