Sierra Vista Byway 100-Mile Scenic Road Trip

If you want to see the other side of the world of how nature really is, drive up the Sierra Vista byway. [Music] The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway is at the heart of California and it’s centrally located between Yusede Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Parks. The experience up here is more authentic to visiting the Sierras 100 years ago. It’s very rare that you can just drive down a road somewhere and see vistas that amazing. Normally, you would have to climb to a vista to enjoy it. The byway itself is about a 100 miles long. You’re going to see all different kinds of mountainous terrain. You’re going to see trees, forest, peaks, and domes. It goes right into the heart of the Sier where most of the roads all in California do not do that. It’s it’s a hidden gem. Aside from driving, the Scenic Byway offers endless hiking and backpacking, camping. There’s fishing, there’s hunting, there’s photography. Stop at the Jones store in Basor. It is so neat. It’s been there 100 years. They’ve got tri tip, they got hamburger, and they got the best homemade pies in the world. This is a family business, so we’ve been up here all our lives, and you know, we have no electricity, no telephone. So, when people come back here, they always say this is like going back in time. A high Sierra experience is about getting out, walking, exploring, seeing new things. You have the forest covered by pine, the rock granite domes and peaks, the river valleys, and it’s just the high Sierra experience allin one. Get in your car, drive up there, and just stop and enjoy our nature up here that we have. [Music]

Drive this 100-mile stretch of road and you immediately get a feel for what California looked like about as many years ago. The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway sits between Yosemite National Park and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks and passes by granite domes, glaciated peaks, and high mountain meadows. To embrace the time-machine theme, stop at the Jesse Ross Cabin from the 1860s and Jones’ Store, which still doesn’t have electricity (but does have great pie). Take the drive when you go see the Sierra’s summer wildflowers, or to embark on a classic California rafting adventure.

  1. Glad I saw this area many years ago, before the blaze. Boondock camped st Jackas Creek, way back on a dirt road. AWesome weekend. Unfortunately in 2020 a wildfire #CreekFire damaged a lot of this forests. Mammoth Pool, some of this roadway and campgrounds around here. NORTH FORK, CA is the town to search for.
