Puerto Pollensa – Mallorca – Majorca – 27th October 2025
Today’s Monday. It’s the 27th of October. It’s 2025. And what a difference a day makes. We’re up in Poensa. Uh it’s nearly an hour’s drive for us to get up here. Uh but the sun’s shining and it looks like a beautiful day. And that’s unlike yesterday when it absolutely poured down and uh felt to us very very cold. Um we even had the heating on last night. We did. Yeah. Saturday it was 28° and felt like 38. It really did feel quite warm on Saturday. And then Sunday it just rained all day and the temperature plummeted. In fact, it went down to 15°. We were shivering after the match. We went to a football match. It was raining, it was windy, it was cold and the match was bit similar really. Ducks, ducks swimming out there. Uh anyway, we we managed a draw at home to Levante, who only just came up from the second division last year. So, it wasn’t a great result, but the the pitch was well, it was uh soden. There was water puddles all over the place. There was not really a good game of football in it, but uh and we went one down. Uh but uh fantastic goal by Mafo. Uh managed to save the blushes and we drew Lots of fish down there. We just uh parked the car just up the road there. Just up there. There’s a big car park. Uh but we managed to find some street parking. And uh as we come down, we came to a charity shop and uh bumped into Alistister from Dundee who’s on his holiday here. Comes here a couple of times a year and uh obviously likes it and watches our videos. Was quite complimentary about them. So, um, yeah, it’s been a while since we’ve been up here in Puerto Poyansa. We sometimes go to Poyansa town and we go there on the market day. It does seem a long time since we’ve been along the pine walks here. And it’s busy. It’s busy. It’s um UK half term for for much of England and uh and Wales, I guess. Our daughter’s on holiday and the grandchildren in in the UK. So, um yeah, so expect to see a few children on the videos. This is Cappuccinos and the Sespot Hotel. Well, I guess anyone who arrived over the weekend, they thought their luck was in on Saturday and then Sunday they must have been feeling a little bit down. Uh but today and uh pretty much for most of the rest of the week it’s looking pretty good. Wednesday we could have a few spots of rain. This is quite nice that one. But there was a lot of rain. It was not deluge rain, but just constantly heavy rain. And uh unusually the the rain the wind was coming from the east east northeast I think it said on the um on the weather forecast. And where our seats are in the stadium, we are undercover. But the wind was blowing the rain directly at us. So, um, we had our brolies up for most of the match. And luckily, well, luckily for me, I went dressed for it being a bit cold and it I never dressed properly. There’s loads of people on the beach. This is well coming towards the end of the season now. We’re getting uh uh maybe another week or two and then we’ll see what happens whether they manage to extend the the season a little bit with hotels. And it’s a bit of a catch 22 situation cuz the hotels um no point them opening if there’s no flights here. So they relying on the flights and the flights always say well the hotels are closing so we’re not putting the flights on. And uh flights are quite often organized well well in advance years in advance I suppose. Anyway, I guess we’ll see. Well, people in the sea. I’m glad I got my jacket on today. Well, you know, the temperature is going to be around 23 24° today. It’s going to be quite pleasant. And um that’s pretty much what it’s forecast for the whole week. And uh I we were looking at the weather forecast and seeing that we’ve got an away match next weekend. So, we thought we’d have a little bit of an away day. Well, an away weekend. So, we’ve booked a little um a little trip away. We have look forward to it. So, yeah. So, next weekend, uh we’ll take you somewhere. I’m trying to say somewhere differently. It’s somewhere we’ve been many times before, but uh and it’s actually a hotel we’ve been to before. So, if you’ve been watching our videos, you may well have seen the hotel, but I’ll tell you more about that. keep you in suspense until next week. Next weekend. But we got a whole week to go before then lifeguard and a green flag. So safe to swim. Gentle ripples. No big waves. You wouldn’t really get that here. It’s very much enclosed. I think I The last time I think we were here was when we were watching those flying boats take over. Is it? I don’t know. They are actually planning here with Yeah, Anita comes here much more regularly than I do. Um but um there is um an aerodyome over there. I’m going to go over here actually bit. And uh they have the flying boats there. We came up must be two or three years ago now and they were doing a little bit of an air display and lots of them were taking off. Fortunately, something wrong with my camera so I didn’t get much video of it. And the walk here just goes on and on down there. Do you have a photo here? Yeah, looks like a good place. And uh over there you’ve got the hills in the distance. That’s the boat out in the the bay there. It’s very well protected from the the wind. So, it it’s really should be quite calm here. Should we walk back? Yes. Well, go back towards the shops and harbor. Perhaps find somewhere for a coffee. Yeah, this part of the pine walks actually a little bit uneven. So, good to have something decent on your feet. years ago, we used to come up here to meet our friends uh Jeff and Jean who lived in Puerto Puansa. And uh Jeff used to run a a fish and chip shop cafe called the codfather. I used to come and have lunch there with him. You see the little bit of waffle. Jul’s a teacher now, isn’t she? I think so. Yeah. Yeah. His daughter. Daughter-in-law. Julian. Daughter-in-law. Yeah. Julian’s and the grandchildren must be all grown up. Richard. Yeah. Used to come to scouts. Daddy. Jeff. I think the last time I heard from Jeffy was uh maybe sympathizing with me about the football with Morca. I think he was on a high then with um his team. He’s a big Liverpool supporter. Probably on not such a high now though. Not really doing very well. We were we went to the theater on um Saturday night to see an English production uh locally written so it’s got a local theme to it. uh done by uh a lo two local companies which had joined forces to put on this production. It was called Selling Shades. Selling Shade. And it was um yeah, it was incredibly well done at the auditorium, the big theater, but it was there’s a a salamotz there which is a bit smaller and uh pretty well attended. It was more almost full. And uh that was the first night. They did two nights. So hopefully the second night was similarly filled. And uh it was just an excellent production, really well done. And uh I actually had a message from a former colleague when I was teaching at Bellev to say that great friend of hers, Na was one of the principal parts. All of the actress, actors and actresses in there were absolutely excellent. They did a a first class job. Um lines were delivered perfectly. Uh it was just very well set. The actual scenery was really good, really polished performance. So, uh, hope we see more of them. Absolutely. Absolutely. Want to see more of them. A lot of them from the Soyer area. So, there was a bit of a So, yeah contingent in the audience. So, we we met Shirley and Rachel. This is Rachel. Rachel. Rachel, um, a former teacher as well, another colleague. It’s one of these places where you go to these theater productions and, uh, you bump into people that you’ve not seen for a long time. It’s really nice. Another one of these meeting places. Another one which over the years would have been bonfire night. Both the cricket club and the scouts used to have big bonfire nights used to finance the scouts for the whole year pretty much. And uh well they don’t do any of that anymore. Calvia did try once the cricket club stopped to take on the bonfire night but it was not quite the same. The bonfire night has to be organized I think by somebody who um understands it and perhaps grew up with it in the UK and for the Spanishame and Calvia to try and organize bonfire night. It never actually worked very well. So um as far as I know it’s died of death. The school used to do it. Um never see no or the best. It was always a time when we we would find it difficult as well. We would always do the scouts one, but be around half term quite often. We’d be in the UK and I think I can remember on some occasions flying back and going straight to bonfire night. Nicely decorated bicycle. menu delier 1950 children’s 1450 and uh as we were driving in we saw menus for 15 €13 menu del bars roughly off the beaten track going to pay a little bit more being on the front you’re in the sun and you’ve got this absolutely wonderful view put it in. No idea what it’s going to be like. Amazing how busy it is, isn’t it? Yeah. any piece of beef I’ve ever had before. I was with the Japanese and I was all We go away for a weekend and then we’ve got a few days and then we’ve got Angela coming. This is the Hotel Mirramar. What a lovely position that is. There’s the hotel. There’s the pine walk. And there’s the hotel sitting area by the sea. Coffee and a cake. 850. Still a little bit of a breeze. What I like about places like Honey, the diner. swimming pool. The ducks climbed onto a boat over there. Um, I don’t know. It’s a big port. I don’t think not like they would have in Club Demar in Palmer or Pa. I don’t think it’s quite the same as that. Where do you recommend for a coffee? Go further down that way. When we um used to be the bus stop. Yeah. Well, when we first came to Morca, there were no roundabouts on the on the island at all. Just didn’t have roundabouts and even traffic lights were very limited. And that was one of the first, if not the first first one that I came across on the island. And people really didn’t know how to negotiate it. And uh it’s one of mine a lot of people’s pet hates is the way people negotiate roundabouts here. They don’t seem to do it the way that it’s done in the UK and sometimes quite dangerous. So, the way they’re taught appears to be in the Spanish driving school is that uh they should always go around in the outside lane. Doesn’t matter where you’re going to exit, you should always be in the outside lane. And it really makes it difficult to know why they have two lanes then or three lanes sometimes on a roundabout. you’re supposed to be in the outside lane. Well, obviously makes sense that you have to be in the outside lane to exit, but if you’re going 3/4 of the way around a roundabout, you’re still in the outside lane. And uh anyone that’s on the inside lane is supposed to give way to you. And uh that’s how it’s sort. And in my mind, those people lane are actually overtaking on the right, which is again not done in Spain. You don’t overtake on the right, you overtake on the left. So, it’s one of those things, isn’t it? I don’t think I’m ever going to change the Spanish Highway Code. And uh I don’t think the Spanish are ever going to change my way of thinking that uh they are a little bit dangerous sometimes. At one point they did actually say it was officially said that you should not signal on a a roundabout. How could you say that? Anyway, then they’ve changed that and now they’ve said you should sh signal everywhere and everything. So, you actually see a lot more signaling now. People indicating whether they’re coming or going. I’ve got my camera with me, but I haven’t taken any photographs yet. I don’t know if I will do. Not as photogenic as some of the places we go to. Lots of rebaccas. Rebaccas are sails. flowers. That would be so funny. I don’t see you. restaurant’s getting ready for lunch. Now we’ve had the hour change. Of course, it uh just feels a bit different and we’ll go dark very early. So, make the most of the daylight and bee scored a goal yesterday for Real Madrid who are he missed a penalty but he scored a goal. Bellingham as well. And uh Madrid seem to be running away with La Liga at the moment. And we seem to be stuck down at the other end. We’re not bottom, but we’re uh close. That’s a bit Yeah. Well, we’ve uh stopped off for coffee and um got a lovely view. Beautiful day. I think it’s warming up. So, I think you all right? I’m fine. Yeah. She’s taking the jumper off. Cheers. Cheers, everyone. That was a nice coffee. We’re just going to our little walk. We walk along the front here. Got the beach on one side and we got the shops on the other. Here they bought these little dresses for the girls from one of these shops. Lots of cafes and restaurants as well. There’s an Indian darling. As we were sitting down there, Nita was saying that we should be going for an Indian soon. See a bigger Yes, I remember. Here it comes. You got the little side alleys there. There is another road that runs parallel, but I think most of the shops we’re going to enter are along here because we live on between all these shops. As as the resident expert, how far do we go along here? Turn off the right down here. Just heading a little bit away from the sea. a breeze. It’s coming straight down here. Got that uh funneling effect. It’s our car. Would like our car. Our car down there. Anywhere down there. I don’t know. I don’t really know. I thought you were the resident expert. We’ve actually got the hills right up in front of us. Those mine take you to for mentor, but uh if you’ve got your car, you can’t go there. Um during the summer months they don’t allow you to drive over over the top you have to uh all the way to formint you have to park up and uh get the bus and that’s because it just gets too busy. I’m guessing the cyclists are still allowed to go, but uh and people who got a reason to be there if they got a business that way. But um cars are not allowed. So you can go up to the top, I think, to the viewing point, which is really pretty. There fantastic views from up there. And uh vertical drops down to the sea. And uh you can get to the hotel which we did stay at years ago. Very exclusive, very expensive hotel. And uh it’s now part of the Four Seasons group who were in a little bit of trouble because they’ve done some of the work without having permission. So I think they’ve got some fines to pay. Well, don’t think there’s so much down these streets. So, we’re abandoning that street cuz there’s not very much down there. We’ll go back towards the sea, which is much prettier. Just lovely view. It’s an amazing view, isn’t it? It’s just perfect. Whenever I come here, I always think of um Peter Eustenov. Well, did you meet him here once? No, but he he used to be a regular visitor to the area to the the hotel. And um I’ll see you down by that bus stop. One of the Agatha Christies. Yeah. Yeah. One of the Agatha Christie’s books. was based here. Death on the Nile. That’s the one that obviously comes to mind. Not sure it was. Yeah, I see you down there. I think about that one. How lovely is this? If we look over to the hills in the distance, which you can’t see because there’s a tree in the way now. Um, there’s a like a monument at the top, but there’s a line that goes across. That is the road that takes you up to the viewing point and then down over the other side going to the lighthouse which I don’t think we’ve ever been to. If we ever went it must have been in the very early days, but I don’t actually ever think I’ve been there. Definitely a place got to go to. It’s definitely on my list. Um, I think we might well wait for the winter time when it’s a little bit quieter and we can actually drive down there. So, probably after this, the end of this month into November, it they’ll open it up and uh you’ll be able to drive along there, but during the summer months, it’s cut off. Not sure what the actual dates are. They did extend it, I think, this year. do find the the scenery, the mountains quite spectacular. And just on the drive up as we come off our motorway and uh and head down towards uh the port I think it does become quite pretty and spectacular the mountain scenery. Sometimes see the paragliders jumped off the top of one of the mountains. Children out playing go to that side. If you carry on going, you end up in port of Alcudia. And then uh Campeeka fort beyond that ply deuro. This is a huge bay on this side and La Victoria there. And uh if you want somewhere very special to go, there’s um a museum. Yeah, museum. Yeah, that’s the right name. And it’s an art gallery. and it’s a park and it’s a house and it’s a cafe. It’s called Basad Blanca and uh it’s uh one of the favorite places of um Michael Douglas and Cathita Jones and us to go to. It’s a really fascinating and interesting place. Basa Blanca, look it up. And uh if you want to see a video, we’ve done a couple of video, two or three videos there because we go we take people and we go and I’ll always do a video. It always changes. Something’s different every time we go. Some new things and it’s just a fascinating interesting place and it’s just on the end of that headland up there on the other side. Really tricky to get to. So, um, get your Google maps out and, uh, don’t be frightened by the fact that the gates closed and locked and you can get in and, uh, you can walk around the gardens, go into the the galleries which have got these wonderful masters paintings and it’s just quite an incredible place. Plus the original art work of the people who own it and do the art there. Lovely little Spanish boats here. Little little motorboats. Yep. And then on the other side you got the big motorboat. Look at those big engines out there. I think you open the big door and then get the I do really do like looking at boats, but it’s not something I’ve ever yearned to have of my own. It’s not. I do think they’re pretty things to look at. And uh all along here, these are little kiosks where you can rent a boat. And some you don’t need any license. You can just rent toddling off. fish swimming down there. I always think it’s a good sign when you can see fish swimming in the water. Boaty yards are always places where people are working Um, and now because the end of the season comes, people take their boats out of the water and uh do the repairs that they need to do, cleaning, antifouling, winterizing. Some just put up for sale. This is where I need to refers to as the bus station, which isn’t the bus station anymore. But it’s got a little bit of shade and it’s got some seating because it used to be the bus station and somewhere for me to have a little sit down while I wait for Anita to have a look in the shops. Well, so you probably know me for shopping. I can’t come all this way and not buy anything. So, this is one of my favorite shops. Maui. Maui. And two nice bargains. I got this Serena Christmas. It’s nice. And for me for Christmas, couldn’t resist this. Oh, that’s the price thing which fallen out of the bag. Oh, wouldn’t it be lovely for Christmas on our stairs? Absolutely. Reduced from 14 to 9 to 11. I like it. It’s lovely, isn’t it? Very nice. So, let’s uh I need to make our way now back and just look at those hills. I I find that a spectacular I’m sure that’s one one of the things that attracts people certainly me anyways. This just the view just beautiful. Heading back towards the car now. The water is lovely and clear. Lots of fish here, too. Little ones, bigger ones. Ducks. boat there. Um I think they were saying that um here in Poansa they’d have to take some of the boats out of the water. There’s like that one there and costs a fortune to do it. Not that one. I don’t. Not that one. But that one’s still there, but they’ve take had to take some others. I think that one’s only there because it’s full of water because it’s been raining. Doesn’t look as though it’s particularly damaged and it’s properly tied up. Yeah, there must be something for them to eat. Some food. Does this go under here? Don’t know. Yeah. So, the authorities here have had to spend a lot of money to remove damaged boats that have either sunk or partially sunk. It seems really nice and peaceful here, doesn’t it? It is. Yeah. Sort of place. Okay. Busy. Information board. Hotel Miramar. They don’t look so While you’re here, why don’t you speak? I think all being well on the way back we’re going to call into The uh Morca shopping out the corner festival park. Morca shopping place. quite a lot of English voices, but it’s not just English voices hearing other nationalities as well. Best coffee in point. This is the suspens. Suspins is now part of Oh, I haven’t taken any photographs. metal doesn’t go down the street. Yeah. Restaurants here smell good. Mhm. Anita made a a lovely Thai curry yesterday. Got that to look forward to. And Blue Light started watching Blue Lights this third season. pine trees here, aren’t we? Yeah. It’s a nice big bottle of apperol for you. This is where we had our photograph taken. So, we better finish here, I think. Well, we got to find our way back to the car now. We’ve walked a little bit too far, but it’s been a lovely walk. It has. It’s very nice. Yeah. Thanks very much for watching and see you in the next one. Bye for now. Bye. Just before we go, um, just that’s where the sea is down there. Just wanted to show you the charity shop that’s up here. It’s a a dentist’s charity shop. I’ve never seen one of them before. Lots of things. Some wheels, I think it is. Yeah, it’s actually a bicycle there. €800. Anyway, I need did manage to find something in there. Oh, no. I did. I got I got the poppies. Yes. So there we go. charity shop in Puerto Poansa.

October in Port de Pollença is mellow and great for slow travel: warm days, cooler nights, quieter beaches, and excellent walking and cycling. Expect 21–24°C daytime, 13–16°C nights, and sea around 22–23°C early in the month, cooling later. It’s one of the wetter months, so anticipate a few showery or stormy days between long spells of blue; sunsets shift earlier after the late‑October clock change. The crowd is relaxed—couples, hikers, cyclists—with a short, busier spell around UK half‑term. Prices ease, and availability improves.
Most cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, boat and bike rentals stay open, though hours may reduce near month‑end. Do the Pine Walk, Albercuix and Llenaire beaches, and Formentor on a calm day; catch views at Mirador Es Colomer. Hike Puig de Maria and Tramuntana trails, or ride flat bay loops and mountain climbs. Calm days suit kayaking, SUP, and snorkeling; birdwatch at S’Albufereta/S’Albufera. Nearby, explore Pollença and Alcúdia old towns, Lluc, and the Sóller–Deià–Valldemossa road.
Practicalities: Palma airport is 50–60 minutes by car; check TIB buses in shoulder season. Formentor road restrictions usually lift; parking is limited. Pack light layers, a compact waterproof, sunscreen, shoes, swimwear, and insect repellent. Note 12 Oct (National Day) and, if staying, 1 Nov.
Thanks for watching.

Lovely relaxing walk today, everyone likes Pollenca. Thanks Steve and Anita.
Nice video. We've spent many a happy holiday in Port de Pollensa! Even dined at The Brisa Marina!!😊
Ah! the picturesque and mostly still not overdeveloped north east IMHO it's nowadays by far the best part of the island for the discerning traveller, long may it remain so!
lovely video, thanks steve! i was there just 2 weeks ago, one of my favourite places, i've already booked for the end of april next year, staying in the pollensa park hotel again. 🙂
