24 HOURS IN BARCELONA | Exploring Spain’s Most Iconic City on a Budget

And it’s like a beautiful square with those lovely statues, lots of greenery, and about a hundred billion pigeons here as well. There’s someone feeding them. I didn’t see these last night. Last night I went on a little trip into this mall behind me, shopping mall, where there was like really nice food. I wonder if they have actually finished it, and they’re just keeping the cranes and the other bits of scaffolding there to keep people guessing when it’ll be finished and as a tourist attraction. Hi everyone, we’re Hannah and Johnny, also known as Finding Our Adventure. We’ve lived life on the road, chasing unforgettable experiences around the world. [Music] [Music] Good evening guys and welcome to another episode of finding our adventure. Today we are in Barcelona and if you watched our last episode you would have seen that we were in um the Costa Brava along the coast. We’ve now made it into the city. We’ve just checked into our hotel which is H10 Universat. It’s slapbang in the middle of the city, so it’s a fantastic location to go out and explore tomorrow. But we thought we’d give you a quick tour of the room that we are staying in. We’ve checked into a junior suite, which is one of the best rooms you can stay at in this hotel, and it is so beautiful. I couldn’t wait to not not have a shower before um going to bed this evening. So, I’ve had a nice change of outfit into my lovely hotel robes. I’ve got myself a lovely coffee and yeah, let’s I’ll take you on a little tour with me in my robes. So, as we came in, we were welcomed to some complimentary cookies, which look really good. I have already eaten one. There’s only three left now. And then over here we’ve got the coffee station. We’ve also got complimentary water. And we also had some complimentary little caramel biscuits. We’ve got a little list here for the mini bar. There’s drinks and stuff under here in this fridge here. So if you fancy a soft drink or a beer, it’s all in there. We’ve also got a TV just above the coffee station. And we have got a sofa/ sofa bed. So I think someone else can also sleep here. So you could have your kids or whatever sleeping on this side. And then we have got the bathroom. Some really cool doors going into the bathroom. We’ve got double sinks and beautiful blue tiles in here which then looks onto the shower which is very big and spacious. The nice slidy door. Also really like these tiles here. And then we’ve got the toilet just there. So yeah, really big bathroom space. I think we’ve also got a window here. Oh, it’s glazed. Can’t see behind there. So yeah, moving on back into the room, we’ve got some big wardrobes here. So you’ve got hanging space and a safe, extra duvet, and it just feels really nice in here. It’s really relaxing when you first when we first walked into the room. It was like ah after a travel day. And then this is the bedroom area. We’ve got a lovely little chair just here. And then we’ve got um side tables and the bed is massive and feels very comfortable. We’ve got a se nice wooden ceiling fan to keep us cool if it gets hot. There’s also a AC on the wall. And we’ve got a lovely little dresser space here. I love like the dried flowers decoration. Huge TV. And we’ve got another little poof chair here. But the best thing about this room, I’ll put my coffee down cuz I’ll probably spill it, is the balcony. Look at this. We’re right in the heart of the city. We can look right down on the main street and we can look down to the main square which is where we walked from earlier where we got the bus. But what an incredible view. We can see the hills in the background with twinkling lights and uh yeah, the city comes alive at night. It’s so beautiful and I’m really excited to get out and explore. Good morning everybody. We had a very nice, peaceful, relaxing sleep here in Barcelona last night. The bed was incredibly comfortable and it was difficult to pull ourselves out this morning. But today we are going to be exploring Barcelona. We have about 24 hours before we fly home after this incredible road trip around Catal Catalunia. So we’re going to see what we can do in the city in 24 hours. It is drizzling a little bit this morning. So hopefully the rain holds off. It is supposed to rain, I think, but it’s looking like it’s clearing up a bit. So fingers crossed that doesn’t rain anymore. And I think what we’re going to do now is we’re going to head down to breakfast. Then we’re going to pack our bags as we have another hotel that we’re staying in tonight before flying home tomorrow morning. So yeah, we’ve got 24 hours to explore this incredible city and see what we can do. We’ve just come down for breakfast and we’ve got an amazing spread of food. They’ve got a selection of like cold stuff and hot stuff and some fresh pastries. We’ve got some lovely looking custard and we’ve gone for um some like fresh fruit and yogurt and orange juice and a lovely cappuccino. So, we’ve just come up to the rooftop bar which Barcelona is very well known for. A lot of hotels here have got rooftop bars so you get that incredible city view. And this is a similar view to our room but it’s a little bit higher. So we can actually see the sea from here and we can actually see a few feries in port as well over there. So yeah, absolutely beautiful. But we’ve got to check out in a bit and then we’re going to be going and exploring the city. We’ve just walked like literally a couple of minutes from the hotel and we’ve made it to Plaza de Catalonia and it’s like a beautiful square with those lovely statues, lots of greenery and about 100 billion pigeons here as well. There’s someone feeding them. I didn’t see these last night. Last night I went on a little trip into this mall behind me, shopping mall, where there was like really nice food. Um, but yeah, it’s really nice like circular square. I think they have like events here and there’s also the hop on and hop off buses just over there. We’ve just made it to Larrama, which is a street that’s lined with trees. It’s just across the road from the square that we were at where we started walking. And it’s very popular here. It’s got shops in either side. All of the trees lying down, little um kind of like huts selling newspapers and various things as well. And it is very busy along this street. So, I guess this is one of the main streets to come shopping and exploring. And I think we’re just going to walk straight through it and try to get away from the crowds a little bit. [Music] We’ve just been exploring some of the streets in the El Raval neighborhood and we’ve just come into like a really nice little quiet corner of the city. It’s um some beautiful gardens called uh Rubio El Ladal, something like that. Oh no, it was L luch or something like that. I’ve completely butchered the name, but anyway, it is really beautiful here. It’s kind of like it feels like we’re in like a little fortress. There’s like a lovely little square and we’ve got lots of trees, beautiful archways along here. And um yeah, some of the streets we’ve been going down are quite like hipster feeling. Um there’s like loads of little cool vintage shops and some nice bars. But yeah, this is a really nice little quiet spot. Part of my mission today is try not to get run over. Quite slow moving with my ankles. Still almost had a cyclist run me over at one point on the pavement. Didn’t know he was coming from behind. And then it’s in the crowded sections as well. I’ve been worried that people are going to be kicking my ankles cuz they’re getting very close and squeezing past and stuff. So yeah, if I can get through and scave today, I think that would be a victory. What’s particularly beautiful about these gardens is all of the archways and stuff behind us and then you’ve got all these big, beautiful old trees as well. It’s very pretty here and very peaceful and it’s almost like a bit of a sun trap as well cuz it’s catching the sun nicely and yeah, just much quieter than the busy streets of the city. Just noticed that all of these trees behind me here are all orange trees and they’re all quite small at the moment, but I read online that apparently it smells absolutely amazing when they’re like really nice and ripe. So, we’ve just made it around the corner to the market de laaria and there’s loads and loads of like different food stores you can buy like local products. We just passed one with like olive oil. There’s one over here which selling meats and there’s like bars. It’s a really really like lively place and a great place to come and get some food. So, we just came like across a salami store and I absolutely love like different cured meats and stuff and they have like these little like bokeets bouquets of um meats which look amazing. And this one’s got like paprika um peppers and all sorts of stuff on it and it looks absolutely delicious. So, we’re going to try some of that now. But this one is one I’m looking forward to the most. like loads of chilies on it. Tastes incredible. See the smoke coming out your ears? I think it’s paprika. And then this one’s got pepper on it. Yeah, they’re really good. Well, it is incredibly busy here in the market, but what an amazing place. If you’re hungry in the city, definitely come check this out. They’ve got pella. They’ve got all the salami and tritzo stands. They’ve got fruit stands. They got smoothies. They got seafood stalls and everything. You can sit at a lot of the tables around the stalls to eat, like little mini restaurants. It’s just incred. This is an incredible place to be. It’s so so busy, though. So, just uh yeah, I’m not sure if it gets required at different times, but it is about 1:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. now. So, it is definitely like lunchtime now where everyone’s going to be coming out and want to get food. Yeah, really cool place to be. So, we’ve just walked about 10 minutes or so from where we just were, and we’re now in the Gothic Quarter, and this is one of the famous bridges just behind me. It’s h got a def definitely different feel here. It feels very like medieval, a lot older. And we’re just going to walk down these streets now. As we were walking around the Gothic quarter, there are lots of gargoyles on the building. Underneath the bridge, there is a school with a sword through it. And there’s lots of little details to watch out for. So, as you’re walking around, don’t just follow the streets. Look up and have a little bit of explore cuz lots of people are missing all of the cool things. Yeah, different animals as the gargoyles, different sculptures, and just really cool things to see. So, we’ve just walked around the corner to Casa Deassia and it’s free here and we’ve got an amazing view of the cathedral just behind me and it’s I think it’s like a traditional old house. So, we’ve got like this terrace area with a beautiful fountain below and it’s very beautiful here. Everything we are doing today in this video is free. So, we’re seeing a lot of the sites in the city, not having to pay anything. And it’s really nice just to be able to wander around the streets cuz there’s so many beautiful things that you don’t need to pay for. And you can obviously in a city spend a lot of money very quickly when you’re paying to go into all of the buildings and see all the sites and museums and stuff. So, we thought it’d be good to do a video about all of the free things you could do and just have a really nice relaxing time in a nice warm weather wandering around. We have had the most incredible morning exploring Barcelona and we’ve just checked into our second hotel in the city which is Hotel Practic Bakery. And as you guessed it, it is a bakery on the ground floor, but we’re on the fifth floor. And I thought we’d give you a quick tour of where we are staying. So this is our room. And we’ve got a lovely generous sized bed just here, which is very comfortable. I love the cream walls and the side lights give it a really nice cozy feel. One of the really nice things about this room, we’ve actually got a window with a street view. You can open up the doors like this and then you’ve got your very own balcony. It’s very beautiful the buildings opposite our room. And one of the cool things as well is that just down the street we can actually see Sagida Sagida Familia I think it’s called which is the famous church gaudi church. So it’s only a few minutes walk from here which is amazing and I think we’re going to go and see that in later this afternoon. But yeah, show you the rest of the room now. So, what I’ve realized as well of this neighborhood, it feels a lot quieter than um where we were staying previously. It was a bit more central the previous hotel, but this has got a bit more of a chilled neighborhood feel. So, we come through here to the bathroom and kind of everything else area. So, it’s quite a compact room, but it’s got everything that you need. This room can also be divided here so you can have some privacy so no one’s looking into the room. And we’ve got a sink over here with everything that you need in a bathroom. We’ve got hand wash, body lotion. Got a haird dryer and a safe. Got space for all of your luggage and clothes. There’s even hanging space there, which is great. Some little compartments for all your bits and bobs. And then on this side, we’ve got a toilet in here, which is great. Love it when it’s separate, so you know, it doesn’t stink the place out when someone’s going to the toilet. And then in here, we’ve got the shower, which is a nice big rainfall shower and a pretty decent size as well. So, yeah, that’s basically the end of this room tour. Hope you enjoyed it. thought we thought it’d be a great way to be able to show you the differences between the previous hotel in and the one that we’re staying in now. This is more of a budget version. So, it gives you a bit of an idea of the places to stay when you come to Barcelona. After almost 10,000 steps this morning, I can definitely feel it in my ankles. They’re a little bit small and it’s really nice to come to this room and put our feet up. We actually took a taxi from our last hotel to here and that cost about €15, I think. And we definitely need to do that because we weren’t going to be walking with the heavy bags and my dodgy ankles. And if you do have any sort of ailments like I do, there is the option to do the hop on and hop off bus. We we haven’t done it, but it would be a really good option if you had um time to come into the city. I think it’s about €30 per person and it lasts for 24 hours. So, it’s not a cheap option by any means. So, for both of us, it’ be €60, but it is a really great way to go see all of the sites in the city if you are less mobile. And I think it is something that we were considering with my ankles, but I really wanted to get into the city streets and explore a little bit, but definitely paying for that now. But yeah, so if you’re in the city, definitely consider that option. And you can also use Get Your Guide and we’ll link our um Get Your Guide uh links in our description where you can book various different tours and go into a lot of the Gaudy buildings as well. But as I said earlier, we were doing a lot of the free and budget options this morning, which has been really good. And I think what we’re going to do now is we’re going to chill in here a little bit before heading off to explore again this afternoon. We have walked about 10 minutes from our hotel and we have arrived at Sagrada La Familia which is the huge church behind me and it’s one of the largest unfinished Catholic churches in the world and it was designed by Gaudi. He was really well known in city of Barcelona for building lots of architectural masterpieces. So let’s go and have a look closer look. I wonder if they have actually finished it and they’re just keeping the cranes and the other bits of scaffolding there to keep people guessing when it’ll be finished and as a tourist attraction. But it is absolutely massive. It’s huge. And it also reminds me a bit of a sand castle. You know when you’re a kid and you um you get wet sand and you squeeze it and you dribble it from your hands and it builds like those little towers up. That’s kind of what it looks like to me. Yeah, it’s absolutely massive. And there’s loads of tourists here looking around. They um hop on hop off buses just below as well. And there’s two parakeetses in the tree there making an absolute racket. No wonder they’re able to keep the construction going because it’s about €30 each to go on an inside tour. And apparently it is very beautiful inside with the stained glass windows and stuff, especially on a sunny day when the light hits it just right. But yeah, they must make an absolute killing the amount of tourists that are here going inside. And there’s a lot of young people as well looking around taking photos of it and stuff. And it’s just become such an iconic tourist attraction. And um yeah, it’s just very interesting how a church is probably one of the most famous popular tourist attractions in the city. And I think they will just keep it unfinished just purely for that um legendary mis mystical feeling about it. We’ve decided not to go in today because actually we didn’t book any tickets and it does get booked out. So if you do want to go inside, make sure you book them in advance. But I think the plan is now we are pretty hungry. So we’re going to go find somewhere to eat dinner and uh rest our feet. So for dinner tonight we have found a pizzeria which was just on our way back to the hotel and it’s called Pizzeria Eden. And our pizzas literally have come out in like a few minutes. has been very very quick. You get to choose your base. And we’ve gone for like a traditional style with a thicker crust, so it’s like really soft and it’s really really good. And there’s a massive pizza oven. You can watch them making the pizza um behind me. So yeah, we’re going to dig in now. Johnny’s happy cuz he’s got his Tabasco sauce. And this is going to be a great way to end the day. We’ve just got back from the pizza restaurant which was absolutely delicious. Fantastic pizzas and a really affordable price as well. So, if you’re in Barcelona, don’t forget to check out the Eden Pizzeria just down the road from the hotel where we’re staying. And what we’re going to do now is we’re going to switch off, chill for our last evening here in Barcelona, and we’ll see you guys in the morning. Good morning, guys. We’ve woken up to a beautiful blue sky day after a bit of a gray one yesterday. And it’s our last day here in Barcelona. We are leaving. So, we are going to pack up our room and we’re going to head down to breakfast now. But wow, it is such a beautiful morning. It’s already very busy. It’s just before 9:00 now and uh I can already smell the baked goods downstairs. We’ve come downstairs for breakfast and it is very busy this morning. The bakery is buzzing and we have got like a little buffet area and the there’s a few like seats cornered off for people that are staying in the hotel. Um there’s lots of delicious pastries. I’ve gone for like an apple tart. I’m not sure what this is, but it just looked really good. Uh, and there’s also coffee and fresh orange juice, and it’s just a really nice space to start the morning. We had a little bit of extra time this morning, so we literally just walked a couple minutes down the road to one of Gaudi’s famous houses, and this is called La Peda, and it’s a very spectacular building with lots of curves and very impressive front door. This Gaudy house is absolutely massive and Barcelona is made up of these um city blocks. So each area like you know has buildings, shops and stuff and they all make up these like I don’t know how big the blocks are but then they got the roads running through them. This gaudy house takes up at least half or quarter of one of these blocks. It’s absolutely massive and it definitely dominates this area as well. We have just got back to our room where we’re packing up because we are about to head to the airport. And that is the end of our time here in Barcelona and the Catalonia area. And we’ve had such an incredible road trip. I hope you’ve enjoyed these videos too. And what we’re going to be doing is we’re going to be writing all about it on our website on our travel guide. So check in the descriptions below as we’ll be linking all those as well. and we’ll have all the details of if you for if you’re planning your own trip to Barcelona and Catalonia. And I wish we could have done more in Barcelona, but unfortunately my ankles wouldn’t allow us, but we did as much as possible. And it’s a beautiful warm sunny morning this morning. So, it’s a a good farewell. And yeah, thank you so much for watching. Don’t forget to give us a like and a comment below, especially of what your favorite part was or if you’ve been to Barcelona, what you did that was different to us. And we’ll see you guys in the next episode where we’re heading back to one of our favorite places. And we can’t wait to show you that. And we’ll see you then. [Music] [Music]
