Valldemossa Travel Guide – Spain’s Beautiful Village.

Well, welcome to Mike’s Travels. Thank you to those people who watched my recent videos from Bali. Um, I, you know, I looked at the numbers and quite a few people looked at that, so that was nice. Something different today, though. I’m in Morca, Spain in a little village called Valdemosa. And there’s some people walking past there who are from my state of South Australia over there. Yeah. So those people what that was my sister and her husband and one of the reasons I’m in Valdemosa is that her second son or their second son is getting married here in the island of Morca just outside of Vald Demosa. So we all come across here as a family and um yeah, beautiful little spot. So, because it’s such a long way to come from Adelaide, South Australia, um we’ve all turned it into a sort of a holiday and uh I’ll be staying on Morca for 6 days and then going back to Barcelona and then traveling around Spain just to make the most of such a long distance travel. So, it’s beautiful little thing. Look at the way the the streets just sloped down. I actually had to bring the car in here yesterday and it was bucketing down with rain and the roads are so narrow and they don’t want people bringing their cars. Not unless you’re a a permanent resident can you bring your car in here. Tourists like myself have to park further away in special tourist zones. [Music] But this is um everybody just walks around on foot through here. I’ll just take you around and show you a few of the the streets. Very very popular place. I had to book the hotel here months and months ago and there’s a shortage of accommodation in such a small little village. But um it’s not cheap either, mind you. But look at that. Beautiful. Walking around here is is just incredible. The actual city of Valdemosa dates back 2,140 years. founded in the year 123 BC when the Roman rule. So incredibly ancient city. These current buildings evidently were built between 1600 and 1700s century. So they’re all around 300 to 500 years old. And what’s the most impressive thing about them is the how they’re maintained. You know, all all of them are stone, solid stone cottages, villas. The streets are stone paving. Just a beautiful scene. I’d like to show you my accommodation. And uh just take you through the the foyer area and and the bedroom. It’s I booked it months ago. Um I’ll put the price on the screen. I can’t get off the top of my head now, but I arrived here yesterday and I walked in and it’s a it’s got its own bathroom and um it’s got two twin beds. Anyway, I said to the lady here, “What’s happening? I booked it. Where’s the queensiz bed?” Oh, they’ve all gone. So, as you can see, it’s only about Well, there it is. there. It’s only about four bedrooms and they’re all been separated off into four rooms. So, it’s not really a authentic hotel. I think it’s more like a Airbnb and the rooms have been subdivided off. So, anyway, that was a bit disappointing. I got here and that’s two single beds and I’m last night my feet are hanging off the end of the bed and the air conditioning in here only it’s only got one. And if you have it on heating or cooling, you can’t each room can’t individualize the air conditioning. So that’s really that’s not good either. But I’ve made my point to him about that. And nothing that nothing that the lady can do. She’s the boss won’t she said the boss won’t change it. You just got to accept it. So So what I’ll do now, we’ll go I’ll go in the front and uh show you through. So when you arrive, you put your code in. lady here is the manager. Hello. Oh, sorry. She’s she’s told me a name, but she’s Romanian and I’ve Hello. My name is Rauka. I work in Hotel Mosa and I am from Romania. Romanian. So, so she’s doing a good job. Now look. Okay. So, there’s the front door. There’s the office over there and then you come through into this room which I’m on the ground floor. So, as I said, it’s um you know, it’s got a television, little bit of hanging space, but what I didn’t expect, as I said, out the street is the two single beds there. I I’m struggling a bit with the beds, obviously, cuz um I’m too big for the one single bed like that. But in here is the bathroom. So, it’s got a good size shower, toilet, plenty of hanging space, plenty of plugs, power plugs. So, it’s been well set up. It’s it’s I think they would have eventually when they originally thought about it, they would have gutted the interior of the place and just modernized everything. They’ve got some office or there’s toilet here by the look that’s the that’s the office there for administration. But yeah, all in all, it’s it’s a nice clean little place to stay. Thanks to me. And you do the cleaning, do you? Yes, I do. I do everything. That’s one of your other jobs. Yeah. Yeah, I do everything. Reservation, cleaning, greeting the clients. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you very much. It’s an exclusive little area. Valad Vald Deamosa. I’m trying to get the pronunciation right. But yeah, it’s not L. It’s spelled E. Yeah. By the way, it’s not easy. It’s not easy to get accommodation here either. Accommodation can be a little bit expensive, but um you know, I think this is quite nice. Yeah, I’m just going to have breakfast here now. It’s early. It’s only Oh, it’s probably 8:00, but nobody gets up too early here in uh Vald Deamosa. And I’m just going to sit down here and have my breakfast, which is a little peach and number and a coffee, black coffee. Just walking around the streets of Valdemosa was just a incredible experience. The actual little village itself has only got 2,000 permanent residents. It’s located in the Sierra D Traant Mountains, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. and it’s in the northwestern part of the island of Morca. So it’s about 20 km from Palmer, the capital of Morca. That’s where you fly in from Barcelona if you’re coming here. The flight’s only about 15 minutes from Barcelona to the island. Valdos is surrounded by lush forests and mountains. So it’s a it’s a beautiful little site. I’m walking around early in the day here, so there’s not a lot of tourists, but come lunchtime afternoon and especially weekends, it gets very busy with tourists. The actual island itself was only 75 km from north to south and 100 km from east to west. So, we used it as a base because the wedding was on the outside of this little village. I used it as a base. I stayed here and I did day trips around the island. I hired a car from Barcelona, picked it up at Palmer airport and then drove to Valdamosa. So I’d go off each day and and use the car to go and see the different uh beaches all around the island. It’s fantastic beaches in Morca and the road network is fabulous for such a small island. They’re dual lane freeways. The roads are beautiful. So, you don’t have any trouble there. It’s It’s very safe. I hired a Toyota Yarus to come to Morca. I booked it many, many months in advance. Okay. Because I needed it for 6 days. It cost me $4376 Australian which is a which was a good price and it was supposed to be including insurance. So I thought well okay that’ll be good. I picked it up at the airport. However, on arrival at the airport and meeting the rental car people they weren’t happy with that level insurance. So, I had to pay another €273 uh euros for an upgraded insurance policy. So, look, I I didn’t like it at the time. I thought, “Hang on, this is this can’t be right. I booked it online and and now I’ve got to pay double the insurance.” So, they said to me, “I’ll go back to your booking agent and get a refund on the insurance that they charged you for. Now, look, if you’re coming to Spain or Morca where I’m here, you must have an international driver’s license. The Australian driver’s license won’t won’t pass. I unfortunately left mine at home, so I had to reapply for another one at the airport, but I’m surprised with that. Um, Australian driver’s license not accepted here. But a beautiful little place. As I said, we I kept it as a base. And the island being so small, you know, it’s just a day trip up to the north end of the island, which might only be 60 um kilometers, 60 to 80 km, and you can drive right around the coastline. There’s other cities interior on the island which you can visit as well. As far as dining in Valdeosa, the prices are are comparable to Australia. Probably a little bit more expensive because of the exchange rate at the moment. But Vald Demosa is a very quiet little village for most of the time. Weekends, um, it did get a lot busier, but mainly tourists. That’s what we saw most of the time with just tourists and coming in on buses or just day trippers coming for lunch. Lots of little restaurants around. Uh, so yeah, lovely, lovely place. I have to mention the weather here in September in Morca. Every day, 26 to 28°, not too hot, just beautiful and warm. Warm nights, just a touch of humidity keeps it warm. So, shorts, t-shirt, light shirt every day. So, thank you for watching. at the end screen there’ll be another video coming from one of my visits earlier in Spain. So, thank you [Music]
