Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, next to and partially in a sequoia grove, the avalanche seen in this clip is actually a secondary avalanche that occurred a month after an initial, much, much larger one. The original avalanche occurred in early March 2023. It descends ¾ of a mile, down 1700 feet of elevation. It took out numerous trees along the way and left a deep chute with heaps of snow at the bottom. The area above is a rugged rocky peak. The forest below had been logged, then burned in a wildfire. The avalanche descended the site of a former skid row. Prior to that, it was a tributary to the creek below which has been altered by the debris. We’ll be releasing a longer, more comprehensive video soon!
