Thor Peak, Sierra Nevada, California, November 2025.
Thor Peak is the large mountain you see when driving to Whitney Portal from Lone Pine, sitting just east of Mount Whitney. When you hike the Whitney Trail and pass Mirror Lake, it’s the mountain on your right. The weather was perfect, almost no wind, not too cold, not too warm, and the views from the top were amazing. I hiked up via the South slope route. Even though online and elsewhere it’s described as a class 2 route, when I had to go over the rock bands, I only found class 3 options or higher. Since I didn’t feel safe downclimbing that section, I went down via the Northeast Face and then took the North Fork trail back to Whitney Portal.

Good song choice for intro ✨
Not sure where that beta can from but the south face is all 5th class climbing routes from 5.4-5.10. The southeast couloir is class 4 and the east gully is class 2/3.
