1. Weather and atmosphere
March marks the transition from winter to spring in Madrid.
Average daytime temperature: ~15–16 °C
Night temperature: ~4–6 °C
Around 6–7 hours of sunshine per day
Rain is possible but usually light and intermittent.
What this feels like in practice:
Cool mornings and evenings
Mild afternoons when the sun is out
Parks like El Retiro Park start to become lively again as trees begin budding.
Compared with summer, March is far less crowded and far more comfortable for walking.

I remember eating in that market where we had sea urchins and our hotel had views over that great vista of the countryside. Thanks Steve and Anita.

Thanks Steve – I well remember my last trip to Madrid about 10 years ago, July with temps. touching 30c. Back then it was just as crowded as this March video. Tourism is manifestly increasing.
