šš»āāļø 10 TIPS to SAVE MONEY in MADRID š° šŖšø #085
Saving money on your trip is certainly a priorityĀ for most people, and today we’re going to help youĀ Ā stretch your budget when you visit Madrid. SomeĀ of our tips can be applied to other destinationsĀ Ā in Spain but most are specific to Madrid. Hola.Ā ĀæQuĆ© tal? I am Tony GĆ”lvez from Road Trip SpainĀ Ā
And Portugal, where we help you plan the perfectĀ trip with practical information and insider tips.Ā Ā Be very welcome to the channel. In the videoĀ description you will find links to all the videosĀ Ā and resources mentioned throughout the program.Ā Let’s get to the tips. Tip number one: researchĀ Ā
The dates of your trip. The first tip is the oneĀ that can lead to the biggest savings. Madrid isĀ Ā the capital of Spain and as such hosts many eventsĀ of all kinds throughout the year. And one of theseĀ Ā events -or the conjunction of several- can causeĀ the price of hotel accommodation to skyrocket.Ā Ā
So take our advice. Before you buy your planeĀ ticket, take a quick look at the prices ofĀ Ā accommodation in Madrid. On the booking.comĀ website, for example, there is a very usefulĀ Ā tool that allows you to see the prices on theĀ calendar, clearly identifying the most expensiveĀ Ā
And the cheapest dates. This tool works with allĀ hotels and types of accommodation. And on manyĀ Ā hotels own websites there is also a rate calendarĀ which allows you to identify chilling price rises,Ā Ā
Such as the one you are seeing now on the screen,Ā going from 34 euros a night to 340 euros a nightĀ Ā in a single day -and it is not a mistake. TheĀ important, the fundamental thing is not to buyĀ Ā
A plane ticket without first researching whetherĀ any event in Madrid has left accommodation pricesĀ Ā sky high. The second tip is to considerĀ staying in a hostal. Hostales, or pensiones,Ā Ā not to be confused with hostels, are the economicĀ siblings of hotels and because of their importanceĀ Ā
They already have a video on the channel, makeĀ sure you watch it. There are countless hostelsĀ Ā in the tourist center of Madrid, they can end upĀ being a cheaper accommodation option for your stayĀ Ā in the city. Third tip. If you really want to saveĀ money, forget about having breakfast at the hotel.Ā Ā
We have nothing against breakfast servedĀ in hotels, but if you want to save money,Ā Ā it is essential to get rid of an expense that endsĀ up weighing a lot on the price of accommodationĀ Ā in Madrid. There is a place to have breakfastĀ on every corner, almost every corner, and if youĀ Ā
Don’t need a hearty breakfast you will get it forĀ a much cheaper price than in a hotel. We alreadyĀ Ā have a video explaining what breakfast is likeĀ in Spain. Make the most of free public transport.Ā Ā We don’t know how long the initiative willĀ last, but right now Madrid has free bus lines,Ā Ā
The most important, one the most useful, is lineĀ 001, which already has a video in the channel,Ā Ā a wonderful tool for those who want to save moneyĀ in Madrid. It is a local bus line, free of charge,Ā Ā that passes through many of Madrid touristĀ attractions. If you stay along the line,Ā Ā
You can save a lot on transport during your stayĀ in Madrid. Make lunch your main meal of the day.Ā Ā The fifth tip for saving money Madrid is toĀ have your main meal of the day at lunch time.Ā Ā
Lunch time in restaurants is usually cheaper thanĀ dinner time, even more so if you take advantageĀ Ā of the menĆŗ del dĆa, a Spanish inventionĀ we have already presented on the channel,Ā Ā which accompanies the one we dedicate to a handfulĀ of menĆŗs del dĆa in Madrid that we like a lot.Ā Ā
The next thing may come as a surprise, butĀ it doesn’t really lend itself to much debate:Ā Ā if you want to save money you shouldn’t eat at theĀ Mercado de San Miguel. Mind you, we’re not sayingĀ Ā you shouldn’t visit it, it’s a beautiful buildingĀ in the center of Madrid. Stroll around its stallsĀ Ā
And delight yourself with the delicacies servedĀ there. But you should know that you will pay aĀ Ā lot more for food in the market than you wouldĀ in other parts of Madrid. And the main reasonĀ Ā is that the Mercado de San Miguel is above allĀ a place for tourists. There are many places nearĀ Ā
The market to eat tapas, as we showed you in ourĀ Madrid tapas route. Check whether you’re entitledĀ Ā to any discounts. If you’re a young person, aĀ student,a teacher or a person of the best age,Ā Ā which is how we like to refer to the elderly,Ā you should know that there are many attractionsĀ Ā
In Madrid that offer discounts, including veryĀ outstanding places such as the Prado museum or theĀ Ā Royal Palace. On the screen we are showing now theĀ discounts that the Prado museum is offering at theĀ Ā moment. You will have to research what discountsĀ each attraction offers, because there is no singleĀ Ā
Universal criteria. If you want to take advantageĀ of the discount offered for students and teachers,Ā Ā you will need to have the ISIC international cardĀ or the ITIC international card, which are theĀ Ā documents recognized as a form of identificationĀ as a student or teacher. Make the most of theĀ Ā
Free attractions. You probably already know thatĀ there are quite a few free attractions in Madrid,Ā Ā and that some of the most important paid onesĀ have free opening hours. The free opening hoursĀ Ā can be a pain because of the huge queues atĀ places like the Royal Palace or El Prado,Ā Ā
But in terms of saving on admission fees, nothingĀ beats free opening ours. Get a Madrid museumĀ Ā pass. Anyone who visits Madrid wants to see itsĀ extraordinary museums, and one way to save fromĀ Ā visits to the museums is to buy passes or cardsĀ for them. There are several and some of them areĀ Ā
Excellent allowing great savings, don’t miss theĀ video we have dedicated to them on the channel.Ā Ā Don’t book a transfer to leave Madrid airport.Ā The last tip is related to transportation from theĀ Ā airport. There are always taxis at Madrid airportĀ terminals, which operate with a feature that makesĀ Ā
Them unbeatable: a fixed rate to the city center.Ā You can see more details on this matter in theĀ Ā video where we talk about leaving the airport. InĀ the specific case of Madrid, hiring a transfer isĀ Ā completely unnecessary, it will cost you moreĀ than a taxi. Moreover, Madrid’s taxi fleet hasĀ Ā
Vehicles that carry up to 8 passengers, paying theĀ same fixed rate. So that’s our collection of tipsĀ Ā on how to save money during your visit to Madrid.Ā We hope you found them useful and that they makeĀ Ā your budget stretch a bit further. As always,Ā if you have any questions, take advantage ofĀ Ā
The commentary box to ask. If you found the videoĀ useful and want to leave us a thumbs up, we’ll beĀ Ā grateful, and even more so if you dedicate a superĀ thanks to our work. You will see now on the screenĀ Ā
Our essential guide to Madrid, with everythingĀ you need to know to plan the perfect trip to theĀ Ā Spanish capital. We’ll be back next week withĀ a new video about traveling around the country.

im going to madrid on 27 jan.upon arrival should i take airport transfer to Ronda Manuel Granero or just taxi would be cheaper?please advice.
You mentioned taxis, are there several especially in the early mornings?
What about when leaving the hotel back to the airport, is it difficult to order a taxi when staying in the city Center? What about traffic to get to the airport?
Hi Tony, learned from your video that there are taxi for 8 passengers at the airport. Is it necessary to book in advance or just waiting at the taxi station? Thank you.

Pls.make video on airbnb accommodation sir we are planning to visit spain
I just returned from Madrid on Friday and yes try to eat at local restaurants rather the the hotel restaurants. The hotel restaurants are too expensive and not always the best quality. My coffee and a croissant at a cafe on Gran Via was no more the 7-8 euros.
Thanks ā¤
My question to you is, are taxis expensive in Spain, are they a set price like Mexico? Is there Uber available in larger cities? Appreciate your videos, they are well thought out.
Also a great Tip is to save money on those high ATM fees. i was shocked how high they are. This app really helped me: ATM Fee Saver – it shows ATMs with no or low fees for withdrawing money =) Super nice for travelling
