San Sebastian, Day 2 – Pintxos Crawl
[Music] welcome to a day two here in san sebastian yes and we’ve got once again another full day of eating for you uh if you haven’t checked out our first video arriving to san sebastian please do check that out we’ll link it at the bottom but right now we’re beginning our day and as always first things first coffee let’s go once again we’re in the gross neighborhood and our first spot is not so much of a speciality coffee place but rather a speciality and very famous tortilla place not to be mistaken for the mexican tortillas but a spanish tortilla which is made from egg and potatoes and if you’ve watched any san sebastian videos previously you might be familiar with this spot and we’re here guys we haven’t been to we haven’t practiced our spanish since 2016 so yeah it’s a bit rusty do you excuse it [Music] all right got my coffee i’m very excited to try this but i need to have some coffee first strong that’s it’s just about cooked through get one small piece of bread nice soft piece of bread here that’s delicious it’s so creamy so light and fluffy all of it it’s like it’s just yeah it’s just so good it’s so good look fluffy mmm try it brilliant all right that was a fantastic bite fantastic start to the day very nice coffee bar brilliant tortilla and it makes sense why we’re seeing everyone that’s here getting the same thing and only that one thing coffee was really nice too our next plan was to go to the beach but it’s a very overcast day and it’s not very suitable for a beach right now so we’re not sure how we’re going to kill time before our next mission which is a local pinchos in the gross area where we are right now so not sure what we’re gonna do right now probably just gonna get lost gonna go in and out of some streets and yeah just figure it out i guess probably gonna start drinking sooner than later but yeah we’ll see how it goes uh we’ll let you know we took a walk along the coast and settled by this popular san sebastian monument the dove of peace all right we just spent a nice amount of time chilling by those waves relaxing by the sea uh even on this cloudy day it was very nice to do so but now it’s time to eat again and now we’re going on a very local pinchos tour in the gross neighborhood um so yeah let us take you with let’s go and our first stop is here at you can see it sp [Music] gracias cheers we ordered two more glasses of chocolaty we ordered our first pinchos i mean other than yesterday which is this bike we’ve got a croqueta coming and two of the specials of the day so in every bar you go to it’s advisable that you ask what this special is is something with the mushrooms i believe actually it’s written here it’s a chalupa mushrooms king corn cream and carbohydrate pastry with cheese all right we just got a table upgrade and our final pinch us for the day has come i mean for the place has come which is a croqueta but i’m gonna go for the speciality which is i mean i described it earlier i can’t remember what it is but it’s prawn and mushroom [Music] it’s very nice mushroomy taste but i’m not getting the prawn at the moment but it’s a very well made bite it’s creamy it’s crispy it’s mushroomy it’s nice [Music] babies like corn paste corner mushroom paste yeah that’s nice it really is a fantastic pairing these two it’s good not entirely sure what this is but it looks like salmon it’s smoked salmon it’s really nice creamy yeah creamy so we’re not sure what croquet this is it’s hot it is hot straight out of fryer great first stop on our local pinchos crawl yeah um and we’re on a roll next stop is just a couple doors down so let’s go so this time around we got a another drink which you must try in san sebastian which is the best cider again similar to the chocolate poured from my heart to create those bubbles there we are that’s really nice i can see how it compliments the top um the pinch very well as well it’s dry it’s refreshing it’s nice and now we’ve got a tortilla with cod fish there’s many cod fish dishes and this is another one so looking forward to trying this out and this is the hopefully what we’re expecting here is a another croquetta but a muscle one which is a speciality here so i’m hoping for the best i’m only little guys [Music] good good the fizzy delicious so here i believe we have one of the specialities which is a muscle um let’s give it a go that’s really nice it’s different from any croquettes i’ve ever had [Music] muscly flavor it’s really nice [Music] very delicate very soft look very nice second spot down we ordered the speciality there which was the tortilla de bacalao which is a salt fish cod tortilla we didn’t really know we was getting a tortilla but we’re so glad that we did because that was delicious and then the mussels croquette was also super nice and we definitely enjoyed the basque side as well so yes on to the next one on to the next one let’s go benga and the next spot is hidalgo 56 in spanish right here [Music] oh wow you decided to put the brakes on and get a sparkling lemon drink and i can continuing with the cider what’s a snitch cheers [Music] i’m not even sure we’re not even sure what we’ve ordered here but it looks delightful colors be popping excuse me what what is this it’s kind of a patron okay did we order it is that the one with langoustinas ah yes yes gracias gracias yes so we did order it guys we did order it yes we just didn’t expect it to look so pretty yeah yeah here’s our next dish these are the gambas the prawns which we ordered wasn’t expecting it to look like this but really happy that it does look like that you love a bit of deep fried oh yeah and this is the foie gras with apple raisins and almonds and almonds wow that looks really good i’m gonna get into the photograph with the raisin the apple sauce uh these look like caramelized onions somewhere there’s walnuts but the sauce looks amazing wow look can you see it wow that’s delicious that’s delicious wow that combination is wow wow that’s so good i’m going to try one of these prawns now they’re nice and warm the prawns are fresh and the bat has got a very doughnut-y consistency right now it’s very doughy but it’s delicious let me get into this gazpacho with longer steen those smarters are incredible wow that’s lovely that’s so good i want you to try now jew’s not keen on the idea of foie gras but as um half of london munch one must try of course to confirm whether it’s yay or nay so i’ve got a bit of raisin the caramelized onion caramelized onion of that applesauce it’s a big bite here we go textures for me guys not a big fan fair play the caramelized onion saved it for me and the raisin and the apple sauce i don’t know i think it’s a texture thing for me all right more for me that means more yeah i’m gonna go for some bread for this the tomatoes are incredible look at that color look how rich that color is now this is good oh yeah yeah oh yeah oh yes so refreshing it’s like yeah super refreshing another pinto bar done some fantastic bites there will be jew wasn’t a big fan of the foyer bra but i was i did try it so it is what it is but we’re on a roll on to the next one let’s go it’s only like a minute walk away our next place is here let’s go hola we got two glasses of rioja crianza here ahead of another free dishes [Music] all right so this is the american pork cheek with a jimenez sauce look at look at how delicate that is wow wow wow [Music] that’s delicious that’s so good that’s so good next up we’ve got the grill squid with a baby vegetable vinaigrette it looks like the vinegar is doused in some sort of herb i’m not sure what but the squid looks amazing and this is a vegetable vinaigrette looks like carrot to me is amazing that squid is amazing it’s so simple but the squid is so fresh and nice he’s always some of the best bits so good we’re going in for the poppy seed brie with the tomato jam oh wow you gotta get the crust as well and then a bit of the jam of course [Music] good the sweetness from the jam and then the cheesy nest of the wreath as well as the poppy seeds wonderful combination nice good to hear yo i just want to share with you the bill on this one it was 23 10 for the lot each glass of wine was 240. you got a orange fizzy something and that was 270. the squid was 490 the pork was 450 and debris was 380 [Music] super reasonable prices very affordable i think especially a glass of wine for 2.40 a very nice blast of rio as well so i like saving the boy before we get to another all right we’re calling it time on our gross pinchos crawl that was five bars for you and really we’re calling it time because we would have gone to that bar over there but in the last bar i forgot whether i paid or not so that was my sign to go home we gotta go home we’re gonna rest uh have our siesta now yes we’re gonna have our siesta and we got more pinchos later this evening um and that includes more drinks so we’re gonna chill for || About Us ||
We’re Ju & Ru (#JuRuTravels), two East Londoners who love to TRAVEL and EAT.
We met in 2015 and by 2016 we were already of on our first long term (5 months) travel, having said ‘F@^k this’ to our day jobs (recruitment & finance respectively). We went to South America btw – it was EPIC!!
Now we’re on a mission to inspire others to do the same; to travel and explore this amazing world we live in, to eat and experience the different flavours and cuisines there are to eat and to meet and embrace the other people and cultures we share this time and space with.
In doing so, we’ll learn something new, not only about the rest of the world we live in but also about ourselves. Happy travels!

Pinchos would NEVER be written with CH by a basque person. They should be written as PINTXOS! Txxxxxxxxx
