Pacific Crest Trail Bishop to Mammoth Episode 12 also includes the JMT John Muir Trail

[Music] good morning this is uh day 75 uh we’re heading up pip pass it’s an alterate on the PCT this year uh coming up out of Bishop because of the washed out Bridge uh I think it’s the Kings River but whatever River’s down there we can’t cross it and our next stop is going to be vvr but man it looks like we’re going to have some beautiful country to cover today and uh man after just uh one day off I’m feeling it right now sweating sweating out a couple of those beers I think I had in that chocolate shake last night anyway man I hope you guys all have an awesome day take care see you later [Music] check it out pretty cool snow Bridge there heading up pyute pass finally we’re getting into the [Music] snow just beautiful giv you a taste of what it’s like to hike the PCT here [Music] not bad just made it to the top of caou pass this is the view it’s beautiful isn’t it it’s pretty uneventful it was really nice to do something that wasn’t super difficult um although after just taking one zero felt like uh I wasn’t in as good a shape as I was earlier but uh I’ll get Whi back into shape quickly [Music] good morning getting started this morning coming across the trail looks like we got one of our first creek crossings here for the day check it [Music] out cool water this morning this is like our fourth or fifth one in a row that cold hey good morning day 74 June 7th um still on the alternate we’ll be hitting the PCT here pretty soon uh the alternate is uh cuz the bridge Cross or bridge is washed out but man we just did like six creek crossings Deep Creek Crossings uh first thing this morning ice cold I don’t have toes anymore I just got like stumps down there for the time being hopefully they’ll warm up here in a little bit but uh BR it was chilly oh man what a way to get started anyway catch up with you later hi you pass here by the river actually we camped down by the river last night which was really nice to have that nice white noise on all night and uh really a pretty section of Trail right here other than the cold creek crossings this morning other than that off to Good Start woohoo yeah never a dull moment here on the Pacific Crest Trail this is Creek Crossing number eight this morning [Music] woohoo let me tell you a little secret this water is chilling snow milk the timate cold plunge my feet I can just start to feel my toes now and uh I think I’m going to lose that ability here again again in a second there goes Ranger across the agent headed on down Trail I better get moving you can make it go away in the can’t stop looking at you you’re like a firefly guide me out of the woods now I think I lost my way but got you to help me back tell me what I should do now glowing in the dark I feel it in my heart you’re glowing in the dark glowing in the dark yeah you’re going when we were in the Sierra there was water everywhere during this creek crossing the water was not that deep but it was flowing Fast and The Rocks were rolling underneath your feet oh you can make it go away in the dark [Music] [Applause] [Music] well we’re here at the POU Bridge uh it’s so nice to actually have a bridge and not just have to uh do these River Crossings right through the middle of them um of course this one wouldn’t be safe to do that way but uh awesome and uh we’ll be hooking up with the PCT here real quick reconnecting and then heading on up North toward Vermillion Valley Resort looking forward to that take it [Music] [Music] easy another pass here sweating my uh tail off and working hard hey man if it was easy it wouldn’t be as rewarding right I think so these Alpine Lakes up here on the John Mir Trail Pacific Crush Trail are beautiful [Music] good morning it’s day 78 here on the PCT check out this High Alpine Lake it’s just beautiful up here pretty darn [Music] nice heading up to Seldon pass right now I think I’m getting relatively close few little uh snow Bridges and a little bit of snow here this morning we’re going so slow here because we don’t want to slide into the lake which is frozen I’m to let the sunshine in day I’m trying to make this Darkness go on top of Seldon pass right now you know you get these chps of these passes you always hope the snow’s gone on the other side never happens never ever happens pretty cool talking the wind blowing in the trees oh I will open up oh and I’ll try to spre my wings nothing quite like a cold plunge for the feet first thing in the morning gget Ranger were looking for an alternative rather than walking across this uh shallow area that I came across but uh looks like everybody’s going to have to get their feet wet and join me good news is it’s not very deep if you come back a little bit mark it might get a little shallower it’s Bear Creek Darkness starts to fade feels like things are going to go my way I’m going to let the sunshine in the day [Music] I will open up my eyes so I can see the light oh and I’ll try to spread good morning this is day 8 coming out of uh Vermilion Valley Resort vvr we just got off the uh shuttle and we’re hiking through the forest up toward silver pass I ate way too much at vvr it was good though food was great we camped out in Mushroom City this year and just slept in the tents rather than get in a room and uh everything was good I would recommend vvr and actually ship back my crampons sleeping bag liner and snow Gators I still have my ixs and micro spikes and hopefully that was all a good decision but I wanted to lighten the weight up a little bit anyway um have an awesome day man got to find the blood man rocks go through woohoo this waterfall Crossing it’s not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be come on get in the water Ranger get in the water [Music] buddy nothing but waterfalls River Crossings and mountain passes here on the pretty crazy Trail woohoo that about that listen to The Crazy [Music] Frogs made it up to Silver Saddle and it is beautiful up here every direction you look it’s just incredible I’m going to flip the camera around so I can show it to you [Music] [Music] got a bridge this morning got to love it way to get the day started woohoo yeah hey good morning this is the way to get the day started on the bridge with the river crossing not having to afford a river woohoo yeah this going be a good one head towards it’s Red’s Meadow we’re going to kind of slow roll it so that way we get into town on Saturday cuz I’ve got some shoes coming in on Saturday that Monica shipped me thank you very much Monica love you um man I appreciate all your support but uh off to another great day here on the Pacific Crest Trail pretty crazy Trail yeah got my hoodie on this morning keeping the skers away but uh they haven’t found me yet so no Feast for the skeers yet take it easy [Music] [Applause] [Music] check out Virginia Lake beautiful still a little snow on the edges but [Music] nice okay the crazy people I’m with have come up with a challenge to jump into this Lake and I think we’re all in we’ll have to double check the gadget see he’s going to go for it but no rangers in and uh oh well what the heck hopefully my heart won’t stop there’s no snow on the bank right now so that’s a good thing pressure I gave in pure pressure all right so we’re at Virginia Lake and uh we’re going to do the jump in Challenge and today’s jump will be the Cannonball all right 5 4 3 2 1 this is [Applause] crazy holyo just another baly day [Applause] 900 miles right now here on the PCT the pretty crazy Trail it has been an awesome adventure so far and the Sierra has been just incredible anyway awesome trip good morning hey it is day 82 going into Red’s Meadow this morning then I’m going to uh drop into Mammoth catch a shuttle and and get some new shoes man I need those big time but uh beautiful views so that I check in say hey let you know what day it is and uh another beautiful day here on the trail it’s not all rainbows and unicorns there’s a lot of work out here but it’s pretty good take it easy Reds Meadow hopefully they got some food here for us preferably a shake [Music] [Music]
