Plaza de Espana | Seville Spain

When visiting Seville, the Plaza de Espana is an obligatory tourist spot. Several movies have been filmed here (from Lawrence of Arabia to Star Wars), so why not come and check it out.

It’s located in Maria Luisa park and it’s full of gardens, alcoves, tiles, fountains, instagrammable spots, and peace and quiet.

Built in the 1920s for an exposition, I think they did an exceptional job to have a place for people to come and enjoy being outdoors for decades to come.

It’s quite spacious, despite the number of people who were there and it’s a learning opportunity as you visit each provincial alcove to study the tiles and see what they’re trying to convey. Also don’t forget to take a pic with the famous post located on the bridge. It’s unmistakable.

This is one of the most iconic landmarks in Seville. The plaza was not too busy when we visited. There were people on carriages rides, kids playing with giant soap bubbles, and flamenco performers tapping away to intricate rhythms.

One of my favorite parts was checking out the tiled alcoves that surrounds the plaza, as each presents a different image and represents a different province of Spain. We also did a boat ride along the canals, which I’d highly recommend doing if you have the time. It is a fun activity that offers a unique perspective of the architecture. It costs about 6 euros for half an hour and 10 euros for an hour.

I also recommend walking up to the second floor of the plaza. From there, you see a stunning view of the surrounding gardens, fountain and the canals.

Stunning historic landmark and a must see in spectacular Sevilla. Gorgeous architectural style and just simply beautiful to walk around and admire the detail and the history. Located in the María Luisa park it’s free to visit and there’s a little boat ride you can do in the canal. Also great for people watching and of course you can take some stunning pictures. You can do a guided tour as well which you do pay for. Or I just really enjoyed walking around admiring its majestic presence. Absolutely beautiful .

Plaza de España- Amazing in every way! A beautiful place to stop, meander, meetup with friends, or just soak in the beauty. This was my all time favorite stop in a whirlwind tour of Seville. It’s also where many filming have taken place such as the classic “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Star Wars”.

Built in 1929, the design was built to showcase multiple styles of architecture. Fabulous angles and views from multiple locations. I can see why this has been chosen for many filming sites.

Whether just a day or a week in Seville, do make sure you include the Plaza de España in your itinerary!

The Plaza de España is a spectacle of light and majesty. I have come here day and night because the experience is completely different.

Framed in the María Luisa Park, this plaza was designed by the great Sevillian architect Aníbal González as an emblematic space for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. The result was a plaza-palace unique in the world.

There are hand painted tiles showcasing all Spanish provinces along with a map of each of them, their larger cities and something about the history of the province.

The fountain runs until 10pm at night, so get there before that so you can admire the beauty of lights and water.

This is one of the public places in Seville where you can catch a FREE flamenco show. Usually in the afternoons. The dancers perform for tips, just give them a few euros…….

The Plaza de España is a plaza in the Parque de María Luisa in Marin Seville, Spain. It was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It is a landmark example of Regionalism Architecture, mixing elements of the Baroque Revival, Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival (Neo-Mudéjar) styles of Spanish architecture.

I was surprised to find out that this was built relatively recently by comparison to many of the other buildings in Spain. The architecture carries an old world feel & by that I mean the mixed elements of the renaissance revival, baroque revival & moorish revival creates a beautiful blend that form a cohesive unit. You can still see trace elements of each style. I could go on but pictures are worth a thousand words.
