A quick look at this year’s record snowfall in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Iron Mountain SNO-Park. Apologies for mispronouncing Mokelumne the correct pronunciation is ” /məˈkʌləmni/”… I’m guessing it is around 10-15 feet here./ Kirkwood ski resort a few miles away claims a base depth of 200 inches. Our average winter snow is maybe a bit more than half this amount. We’ll also stop at a Mokelumne Roiver access to see the flow rate. The dam upriver provides water for the East Bay where we live as well as other parts of California, so we are very happy to see this much excess water after a long drought. For more information about the area and SNO-Parks, see my other videos linked below/

  1. Love the "above normal" snowfall. I can remember (back in the day) listening to the ski report on KLIV (when it was a 'rock'n'roll' station) and every year places like Squaw Valley, Heavenly Valley (no longer "valley"), Sugar Bowl, etc had base packs of 15'-18'. Every year.
On a side note…so, the electronics hands free laws in CA don't extend to camcorders?

  2. Crazy awesome, man! Yeah I recognize that spot from your previous vids and I thought it was a lot of snow then. WOW! The area down by the river looked nice too. River looks like it has some power, is that the snow melt run off?

  3. Wow ! That's insane looking. I can't believe how deep that is especially in March or compared to last year. I'd probably drown but I bet kayaking that river would be a blast.

  4. I've been following the snowpack on the JMT with some interest as you know. That's pretty crazy, it's something else seeing it on video.

  5. WOW!! Perfect day to go and check out the snow in the mountains. I remember watching your video last year and I thought that was a lot of snow!

  6. That was an awesome vid man! So much great scenery packed into 5 min. The snow pack was really impressive. I couldnt imagine something like that here in West Virginia. Lol! The river down in the valley was really flowing hard, almost like two different worlds right beside each other. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Well that snow pack should have the rivers running strong for quite a while. Hope the reservoirs can hold on to as much as possible for the lean times. Our snow in the Upper Great Lakes is almost all gone, though it was back down to the mid-20s today here in northern Wisconsin. It was a terrible snowmobile and ski season, what with a couple major thaws in mid-winter.

  8. wow you always takes us to cool places!!! cant believe its march and its still white white over there! no spring right? we invite u guys to ask us anything in our recent no edit vlog, we will be LIVE this Thursday 8PM ET, hope to see u there

  9. Thank you, for the comparisons, you were comprehensive in your report.
(???) What is it 10 inches of snow equals 1 inch of water?
Looks like you're going to be dealing with a mountain of water.

  10. Hello, friend. Wow, it is good to see all of that snow! It is amazing. I don't think I have ever seen that kind of snowpack. Can't believe it was 70 degrees that day. Hopefully this will help out with the long term drought you guys have been experiencing. The Mokelumne River was raging. I love that sound. Excellent video of the sunset……beautiful. God's creation is simply stunning. Thanks for taking us to the Sierra Nevada. Great stuff. Take care and I trust you guys are doing well.

  11. Thanks so much for sharing this video. I am lucky enough to call this place my home & had the blessing to grow up in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I'm glad you appreciate it too. It's always great to see people appreciating such a special place.
Anyone visiting the area, please remember to take the time to clean up after yourself. Unfortunately, many visitors leave a huge quantity of snow toys, food wrappers, ice chests and other refuse before you leave. It's always heartbreaking to see people thrash such an incredible area.

  12. That was unreal – the year where it was in the seventies, ten feet of snow, maybe more, and yet snowmobilers could be heard in the background.

It would be churlish not to give this one a like. Greetings from the UK. 👍👍
