John Muir Trail 2025 – Day 1 #johnmuirtrail #backpacking #hikingadventures

Florence Lake to Piute Creek
Most of our first day is spent just getting to the JMT. We are shuttled from Vermillion Valley Resort to the Florence Lake water ferry where we take a boat ride to access a connector trail. Eventually landing on the very tame Florence Lake Trail, we follow it up to the JMT and make camp near the beautiful Piute Creek drainage. This short, low altitude day helps us ease into the higher elevations for the upcoming days.
