An exhilarating solo adventure into the Inyo National Forest along the Little Lakes Valley Trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Starting at the end of Rock Creek Road, I embarked on a 11-mile overnight journey filled with breathtaking views and unforgettable moments. The trail offered stunning vista and of Little Lakes Valley, Morgan Pass, Chickenfoot Lake, Long Lake, Box Lake, Heart Lake, Marsh Lake and Mack Lake, making every step through this majestic valley worthwhile and memorable. As I trekked towards the end of Little Lakes Valley, the landscape transformed as I climbed up and over Morgan Pass to Upper Morgan Lake, revealing panoramic views of Little Lakes Valley and beyond 11,000+ foot Morgan Pass. Surrounded by the tranquility of nature and breathtaking beauty, I spent the evening under a blanket of stars, and the milky way, reflecting on the day’s adventures.

The next morning, I packed up and continued my hike, traversing back along the Little Lakes Valley Trail leading back to Rock Creek Road. This part of the journey offered a serene walk through lush meadows with alpine lakes and stunning mountain backdrops. Throughout this solo trek, I encountered and experienced the raw beauty of the High Sierra in a unique and personal way. Enjoy the adventure!

  1. 50 years ago I hiked the same area. The scenery in your video took my breath away and brought back memories of my hike, such as catching and releasing golden trout, my faithful Irish setter with his little backpack, and a late night snow storm. OMG, I forgot how spectacular the scenery is. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Little Lakes Vally (through which Rock Crk flows) is the most beautful Eastern Sierra bang for the hiking buck. Mosquito Flat pkg lot where you left your car is one of the highest paved roads in the Sierra (10,000ft) . A close rival is Horseshoe Meadow way back south out of Lone Pine. The relatively flat Little Lakes Valley trail is one thing, but getting out of the car at 10K and huffing down the trail can be challenging to the unacclimated, which is most people.
Your Timelapse of your camp during the night was GORGEOUS.

  3. I really appreciate your enthusiasm and resilience. I too feel that the Sierra Nevada have few equals in this world. I am currently living in Chile, which is also pretty spectacular, but I have yet to find that feeling that the Sierras gave me during the approximately 50 years that I backpacked there. A driving force every year that I lived in California was to go on one to two, seven to fourteen day trips into that awesome backcountry every year. I really miss it. I have followed your videos for a few years now and congratulate you on the variety of presentations that you have used. They just keep getting better.

  4. Did your sleeping pad not come w a patch kit?
We went camping beginning of the month and i found out my sleeping bag was meant for a insulated pad under me, not just an air mattress so one night was super cold. Used a spare sleeping bag under and it helped.

How light is your load out again?
It seems pretty ultra light or just the bare necessities.
    Beautiful videos as always.

  5. Another great video. Thanks. I am sooo ready to hike the eastern Sierras. My fav place to hike. I'm a solo hiker too, well kinda.. hike with my 3 border collies. Thanks again for these videos.. Maybe I'll run into you someday on a trail in the eastern sierras .. I wish I could send you some pictures of some of the places i've hiked to. Thanks again..

  6. Scott, once again, nice content! My adult son and I went for an overnight trip in the middle of September. While I was relaxing at Long Lake, he decided to hike up to Gem Lake for reconnaissance. As we were hiking, we encountered a lot of backpackers. He decided to scout up there, but it was already crowded by 11:00 in the morning. So, as you mentioned, we opted to camp at another lake—shhh! We almost had all to ourselves.

The trail to Gem Lake is horrible! Honestly, the scenery isn’t worth the trouble of hiking up there. Wink. 😉 Wink, We love the Eastern Sierras. Thank you for sharing the video! I guess, lol.

  7. Hey scotty…..wheres your next hike going to be?? We are getting alot of snow in the sierras now… but we need it… im jonesing for a eastern sierras hike…thanks for your videos 😂

  8. Add super glue in your first aid kit. Repair holes in sleep pad, cuts, etc Get the one with a cap and it'll stay usable for a few days.

  9. I cannot sleep without my Therm-a-Rest NeoAir fully inflated. I’ve got to have decent sleep when backpacking. Of course, a nice afternoon nap in base camp is wonderful.
