EXPLORING VALLDEMOSSA Without the Crowds (Mallorca)

So, I’ve come up here to Valdeosa today to show you what this beautiful hilltop town looks like out of season. Now, you’re going to be in for a treat today because normally the car park, which lies just ahead of me, it’s full of tour buses from the cruise ships. We have no cruise ships in Palmer Port today. We also have 11° C with a real feel of 5°. It’s extremely cold. So, let’s turn the camera around and I’m going to show you like you wouldn’t normally see it during the summer months. So, I’m just standing here in the car park and as I said, normally during the summer, this whole area is filled with cruise ship tour buses, but not today. And as I turn around, walking towards the old town, just see the church out in front of me. You can see a very, very busy bus stop. So the 203 bus still runs from Palmer up to Valdemosa during the winter months. Little bit less frequently than you’ll find during the summer. You can find details on the tib.org website. And also just as a note as well, if you are visiting Morca over the winter, but you still have to pay for the car park over here in Vald Deulosa, I paid €130 for an hour today. But look as we come into Vald Deosa, how quiet it is looking. Normally, this restaurant is extremely busy during the summer months, but I think we’re still going to find some things open. Now, Fal Deosa just has such a wintry look to it today. And of course, well, we don’t have the streams of holiday makers pouring through the town or the day trippers, too. It’s a very, very different experience in winter. But we are going to see plenty of places open. I do imagine plenty of cafes open and even shops as well across the road I can see open today. So Valddeza is very much a living and a working town. And look, we have restaurants open over here. I can see that restaurant in front of me is very packed. We got the supermarket open as well. Let’s head on into Vald Deosa. I can see we have quite possibly quite a few day trippers over here too. many people driving out as well from maybe from Palmer for the day or maybe getting the bus. But even though it’s quite a gray, cold, wintry day today, Veosa is still looking beautiful. [Music] So apart from the tourist shop, one of the first places I see open is Casorire. It’s a little bakery here. They sell the cocka de patata which is a a very traditional pastry over here indea and coffees too. Look at this. Look how pretty it is. So just looking down the main avenue. It’s amazing how much is actually open over here. As you may know is one of the most popular old towns over here in Mayorca. And these streets in the summer are filled filled with visitors. Go back and check out some of my previous videos from over here. And I do have an itinerary as well for getting the bus around Valdez and Dea. Go and check that video out. Now, I absolutely was not expecting to see so many souvenir shops open over here in Valdosa today, but I guess everyone is making the most of uh of the tourist traffic that we still have here on the island. And quite interesting, too, to see a an art gallery here in the heart of Aldosa. Hadn’t noticed this before. It may well be new during the summer. As you may remember, if you have visited Vald Deosa before, all these cafes here are just packed wallto-wall with visitors. But let’s take a a walk a little bit further through the village. And look even in winter look got the uh floor dal shop open here in Valosa very iconic here on the islands they do make this salt products over in the direction of estrank go and check out my colonia sanjordi guys you’ll find out all about it in that video but look everything seems to be open it’s very quiet and it’s also seems to be a wonderful time of year to visit. But um let’s go and see if we’ve got some nice views a little bit further down and look at the views over Demosa today. Goodness me, it’s absolutely stunning. Now we do have a rather cloudy day. We have had a little bit of rain today. Is gradually clearing up, but I think it adds to the atmosphere. If you look through the mountains here, look, you looking over in the direction of Palmer, which is the direction that I’ve come from this morning. I’ve actually been to Ted Dea. And as I pan the camera around, we can see another restaurant open. And we’re seeing one thing today I didn’t expect to see. And that is this is LOL town right nestled into the Trumantana mountains being open for the winter months where so much of the island is quiet so much is closed. They’ve been able to stay open and that’s just because of the popularity of the town and the demands for people wanting to come and visit this area. Seville Deamosa really has become quite an iconic old town to visit. I can’t imagine what it’s like living here actually, especially during the summer when when you do have hordes of holiday makers pouring through, whether it’s day trippers or or holiday makers from the cruises. But today it is very, very quiet. And what a difference. What a difference from the summer. [Music] And all the way look all the way down through the rest of the village here. We’ve got more places open. Got little boutique open. We’ve got a restaurant open, too. And if you’re wondering where to stay over here in Valdamosa, the S Petite Hotel is open. Look, they’ve even got their Christmas plants out open this December. [Music] And even the hairdressers here is looking very, very festive here in Felosa. Let’s take a walk a little bit further down. The route I am following. I will drop a link in the description text below if you want to see where where I’m going today. But um just getting some views now. Right at the end here. Look, we can see some lovely lemon trees, absolutely filled with lemons. And I’m hoping somewhere we’re going to find an honesty box of some lemons as well that I can take home with me today. [Music] And the further we come down, the more we are seeing clothes. [Music] So many new places popping up too as well. Look, can’t remember this place. Look, it’s a specialtity coffee and cake and uh wine tasting spot too. Looks very very modern. Looks rather new. Kstitio, which is normally filled with people sitting on on this uh roadside here with absolutely nobody on it here in December. And as we come along this street here, look, while these houses during the summer months provides some much needed coolness being high up in the mountains here in the winter, it feels particularly cold. Particularly walking through here. Oh my goodness, I’m absolutely freezing. I’ve got to say it does look very, very beautiful, but it’s very, very cold. And I hear the familiar sound of drilling too. No surprise here for winter. But I am not on my own today. Oh no. Look, we still have some holiday makers. Let’s keep heading down. [Music] So, I have mentioned this in another video, but many of these houses here do not have gardens. And this is why we see plants on the walls here. It’s almost like you have a vertical garden over here in the old towns. And it is so pretty. Look at this. Look. Adding a little bit of color and greenery to this area. Just looking right here. Look, beautifully well-kept old cobbled streets over here in Valdemos. Looking very, very picturesque and not a soul in sight. Although look, we can see schools are out. [Music] So, I’m just wondering how many of these homes are actually holiday homes or whether we have local people living here. As you know, much of my is being bought up by foreign buyers and I’ve seen very little signs of life over here in Valdosa today. So, I’ve got to the point of little cross here. So, I’m going to head on back up into the town. Let’s go and check out the church area. [Music] in the aromas cafe here. They’re doing chorus gala latte which is probably a great thing to have on a freezing cold day like this. [Music] It’s just left of Cappuccino Cafe here. Let’s take a walk up towards the church. But keep watching on into this video because when I came through Vald Deosa this morning, I got some really really lovely views. So stick around to the end. We get an overall view of the village. So the PLA Katosha here which is home to the Shopan Museum. Plenty open. Looks like the museum is open as well today. Look, all the shops are open as well. Looking very, very festive. Selling warm scarves, too, which probably isn’t such a bad idea. Look, lots of cafes open as well. I’m not surprised really. I’m not surprised that we’re seeing so much open here, even though it is very, very cold. I honestly feel like I’m in a an alpine village here today. Let’s take a walk a little bit further up. So, I’ve just come into the area of the very lovely Juan Carlos Gardens and the iconic church here in Vald Deosa. Can’t see very much open today. Obviously, it is winter, but um all of this is available to walk around as well at this time of year. [Music] And as I come around to the back of the gardens here, look how beautifully autumal this looks today. And I’m standing right in front of the statue here of Frederick Shopan. If you want to find out more about Shopan’s relationship with Valtsa, I will drop a video in the description text below. Let’s head on around to the other side of the village. [Music] And I think this has to be the number one picture postcard view of Vald Demosa from this point here. My goodness me, what an absolutely gray wintry day. But even in this weather and these cool temperatures, Vald Deosa is still looking absolutely gorgeous. So, I hope you enjoyed my wintry walk through Vald Deulosa today. And if you’d like to follow a fantastic route by bus, which is my preferred way of visiting these old towns over here on this route, check out this video appearing here on YouTube. You’ll see Vald Deosa Dea Soya and Port Soya all by bus coming up from Palmer. Go and check out that video. You can also find another video appearing here as well on YouTube of another wonderful old town in Mayorca 2. Don’t forget you can also find me on Facebook and on Instagram. But in the meantime, as I wait for a car to come in, thanks very much for watching and I shall see you on the next video. Goodbye for now.

Join me as I brave the cold and explore Valldemossa with the crowds in Mallorca, Spain in December. This is a rare sight – Valldemossa without the crowds. But I was surprised by what I saw – find out why.
