After Piute Pass, the World Dissapears 🏔️
Crossing over Piute Pass and descending toward the John Muir Trail feels like stepping into another world.
Sitting at nearly 11,500 feet in the Sierra Nevada, Piute Pass has long been a historic route through the mountains, first traveled by Native peoples, then explorers, packers, and early mountaineers searching for passage through this rugged wilderness.
The trail winds past alpine lakes, granite basins, and endless views before dropping deep into the remote backcountry surrounding Evolution Valley and the upper San Joaquin River watershed. Out here, there’s no service, no crowds, and no shortcuts… just miles of raw Sierra beauty😍🙌
This stretch of trail reminded me why the Eastern Sierra feels unlike anywhere else on earth, and why I keep returning year after year 🙌
