The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia has been in construction for more than 140 years. Today we explore this structure just as architect Antoni Gaudí conceived it before his death in 1926.

  1. Hola Manuel, ¡Menudo reportaje!

  3. Even after seeing this video, this is still one of the ugliest cathedrals I've ever seen. I know this building has been hyped for years, but in person, it is NOT as picturesque as pictures make it seem. I think it's famous just for being famous.

  4. Great video! Some extra reading: it's true that Gaudi knew he would not see the building completed in his lifetime, which is why he left lots of drawings and models for reference. But on July 18 1936 during the Spanish civil war, a gang of radicals broke in and destroyed virtually all of Gaudi's work, along with a failed attempt to bomb the Nativity facade. The continuation of it's construction was debated following the end of the war, ultimately deciding to proceed. Much of the building was designed by students of Gaudi and what knowledge was left in the rubble, with the Passion facade being completed in the 1970s. Architect Mark Burry studied Gaudi in Barcelona and designed the interior in the 90s using aeronautcal engineering software
Podcast 99% Invisible have a great episode all about Gaudi's life and the Sagrada Familia, definetely worth a listen 🙂

  5. Ok….. I did not realize how traditional the Sagrada Familia was, with the exterior dioramas, ect. I've only seen pictures taken from a distance and it does not look great when photographed far away.

  6. It is certainly very interesting, some parts breathtaking, but as a whole, I find it actually a little bit ugly :). My apologies to the fans. 🙂

  7. When I walked up the spiral stairs in the towers, I felt like it would make sense if children were laughing in the towers while a mass was on. Prqying in happiness. A fantastic building.

  8. Its a shsme that subsequent architects changed the design for their own egos. Sad. They shouldve followed Gaudi's design. Although, that Jesus facade is very beautiful. Thr journey of his crucifixion is beautifully done.

  9. Wonderful! I have been there but missed so many of the details you film and describe. Some I could never have seen without your film. Thank you so much.

  10. This is an excellent presentation. The visuals/graphics are of the highest quality. Sagrada Familia is a building like no other. An architectural masterpiece. It is a truly breathtaking spectacle. I' m lucky to have visited 3 times and each time it still managed to over awe me with its beauty and scale. Words and pictures cannot fully do it justice, it has to be experienced in the real world. The last time I visited was in 2008. I hope to return sometime soon.

  11. Sorry people but it looks like crap to me. I saw it in person and thought "what a waste of money." The fact that it is still not finished after 140 years should tell you everything.

  12. This is why old gothic churches and buildings should be restored and cleaned they are truly beautiful not dark and frightful but white and glorious full of luminous flashes of colour this is truly something to be admired

  13. I mean, Gaudí's life reflect his intent with the basilica, he only lived to see the first facade finished, died when the second on was being made, and when the last one is finished, his work will forever mark him as one of the besst architects to ever live. Inspirational and a bit of a coincidence.

  14. It is a divine sign for our time that this church will be finished in the greatest crisis of the family institution the west have seen in history.

  15. Very good video!
My only comment is that in English we have two words for tortuga: Tortoise (for land) and turtle (for sea)
There's no such thing as a land turtle 😛 unless you count that brief moment when the female comes onto land to lay her eggs
