We visited the town of Valldemossa on the island of Mallorca in Spain. Our 4K walking tour guides you through the main streets of downtown Valldemossa past delicious restaurants and cafes, idyllic houses, and lovely overlooks. You will saunter by the La Cartuja de Valldemossa monastery which now houses the Chopin Museum, named for the fact that Frédéric Chopin rented a room here during the winter of 1838. The Mirador Valldemossa is a fantastic scenic overlook of the lower areas of the town and Església de Sant Bartomeu. Enjoy the sounds of shoes on cobblestone roads as we take you down quieter, residential roads.

We travelled to Valldemossa in mid September and were lucky to have just missed the scorching humidity of the week before, so we enjoyed temperatures in the mid to high 70° Fahrenheit. This was a great time to explore Mallorca because while there were still a lot of other tourists, it was definitely less crowded than in July and August.

While we were quite happy with all of the restaurants at which we ate, the following really stood out:

S’estret (Carrer de Jovellanos, 6) is an extremely small tapas restaurant with only 3 tables inside and 3 out in the street, which was where we sat on the most lovely evening! Their tapas are authentic and well portioned for a good price. The whole dinner was just dreamy.

Sa Cova (Carrer de la Rosa, 7A) is another very intimate tapas bar a bit removed from the center of town. You enter down into the thin restaurants via a set of five or so steps. The tapas here are a bit more contemporary and offer fresh local products from the region. Their presentation is stunning, the sangria is addicting, and their large window at the back of the restaurants offers a remarkable view of the mountains.

For unique souvenirs, visit the Son Moragues estate or their store downtown that produces olive oil, preserves, jarred olives, and gin. Everything is produced just outside of town at their estate, so you really can’t get more local than this. Their store is charming! We didn’t get a chance to tour the estate but is something high on our list should we ever come back, as they offer numerous special experiences.

If you’ve been to Valldemossa or anywhere else on Mallorca, we would love to hear about your experiences and suggestions in the comments!
