SUMMITING MOUNT EMERSON VIA PIUTE PASS TRAIL: THE EASTERN SIERRA ADVENTURE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

Bishop California is a great mountain town with amazing hiking and alpine adventure possibilities into the nearby Eastern Sierra Mountain Range. Bishop is host to many excellent hiking opportunities and the Mount Emerson area is definitely one of them. Mount Emerson looms in the distance over Owens Valley in which Bishop sits. The summit of Mount Emerson has a spectacular view into Kings Canyon National Park to the west and Owens Valley to the east. A quick 20 minute drive west of Bishop will bring you quickly into the beautiful Eastern Sierra mountains and multiple trailheads, such as Piute Pass Trail. Piute Pass Trail generally hugs the southern flank of Mount Emerson and follows the northern banks of North Fork of Bishop Creek, Loch Leven and Piute Lake. Lamarck Lakes Trail is also an option from this trailhead which starts at North Lake Campground, just off of Highway 168. Lake Sabrina is also a great option and is nearby. Although Mount Emerson has a very tough scramble to the summit, the approach to the mountain is straight forward and extremely beautiful! Piute Pass Trail in-itself is a must-do hike if you’re in Bishop, California and looking to get into the incredible Eastern Sierras. In addition, Mammoth California and the eastern entrance to Yosemite is just north of Bishop for more adventure possibilities.
