Stunning cavern in California

To see it all you take 162 steps down the steep stairway following your tour guide. The cavern is 225 feet deep and has many beautiful views and fun stories.

Interesting facts:
* There are thousands of rare twisted formations (helictites), found in only 5% of caves on Earth
* It was designated a National Natural Landmark because of how well-preserved and dense those formations are
* There’s an 80-foot deep underground lake with vivid blue color caused by calcium in the water
* This cave inspired the Zion set in The Matrix Reloaded
* It’s the only known habitat of Banksula grubbsi, a tiny cave-dwelling species found nowhere else

Other pretty caverns in the area:
* California Cavern State Historic Landmark – one of the earliest officially recorded caves in California and longest cavern system.
* Moaning Caverns Adventure Park – home to the largest single cave chamber in California. It has variety of tours and even some games.
* Mercer Caverns – one of the oldest continuously operating show caves in California.
