[Music] since the dawn of civilization man has settled near water the source of human life Valencia was built on the banks of the river Tura it was an unfortunate choice this River was prone to flooding One Stormy Day in 1957 the river spilled onto the streets 80 people were killed under 4 M of water Valencia looked more like Venice the streets were dirty the people couldn’t live there even some buildings collapsed because of water that was really the the largest disaster that the city has has suffered After the flood the city knew something had to change so the temperamental Tera was diverted away from the city it left the old riverbed [Music] dry fast forward 50 years Valencia’s old source of pain is now its greatest gain delve into this empty riverbed today and we find Spain’s longer stretch of Parkland the colorful Tera Gardens this Dry River bed runs through the city like a long green artery and hosts the city’s iconic buildings the spectacular city of Arts and Sciences walking amongst Valencia’s space AED architecture it’s easy to imagine I’ve been teleported to a future city many light years away oh if only the whole riverbed looked like this because walk a few blocks further and we find a neighborhood stuck in the past the poor city of El is a blot on Valencia’s otherwise Scenic riverbed route with abandoned warehouses spoiling The View separating the city center from the sea Valencia’s Chief Architect wants this to change Jos yavor has developed a master plan for a so-called Delta of green to reconnect the riverbed and the Waterfront the idea is to complete the Tua Gardens creating a brand new space it’s an opportunity to finally fulfill the desire of valencians to unite the city with the SE to get a better understanding of this project I’ve come to the top of the aqua Tower one of the tallest buildings in Valencia from here I can see the city of Arts and Sciences the project would begin just over there it would renovate all that denic land and opening up a new way to the Sea this giant green space of 400,000 square m will host apartments and Office Buildings the foundation for a healthy City and a healthy budget because the mayor believes this Delta of green could provide a breath of freshh air for Valencia’s economy there are already important people big Industries and big Global businesses looking into the possibility of having their skyscraper in the green Delta because this is going to be a very beautiful place very modern powerful and full of potential the city’s Architects aren’t green behind the ears although the master plan has been improved and Landscaping underway they know a project of this scale doesn’t materialize from one day to the next I think that in 10 years time this project will be a reality the image of the city from the ocean will be completely different it will be a more Dynamic image a more moderate image a more open image it’s the last piece of the puzzle the last part to complete the whole project and really to make sense to the old project the Delta of green will give Valencia a dynamic new space for the people of the city it goes back to the need to be near the water and for the city itself it’s the symbolic last step on the way to forgetting the dramatic events of 1957 [Music] oh
