This extended scenic driving video documents a journey from California’s Eastern Sierra Nevada into Yosemite National Park during autumn 2024, combining real-time driving footage, aerial drone views, and original instrumental ambient music. The route begins along the remote Eastside Sierra Scenic Byway near Mount Patterson in the high desert and volcanic landscapes east of the Sierra crest, before continuing south and west toward Yosemite Valley via Tioga Pass.
The drive follows sections of California State Route 89, U.S. Highway 395, California State Route 120 East (Tioga Road), and the Yosemite Valley loop roads. Beginning near the Mount Patterson region along the East Sierra Scenic Byway, the route passes open sagebrush valleys, volcanic ridges, and expansive views of the Eastern Sierra escarpment. After joining U.S. Highway 395, the drive continues south through the Owens Valley corridor beneath the eastern face of the Sierra Nevada, where steep granite peaks rise sharply above high desert terrain.
Turning west onto Tioga Road, the route climbs steadily toward Tioga Pass, the highest highway pass in California’s state highway system at approximately 3,031 meters (9,943 feet). Along this section, the scenery transitions into alpine terrain shaped by glaciation, with granite domes, exposed rock slopes, mountain meadows, alpine lakes, and sparse high-elevation forest. Early autumn conditions in October often bring cooler temperatures, strong visibility, golden seasonal vegetation in meadow areas, and occasional patches of early snow near the highest elevations.
After crossing Tioga Pass and entering Yosemite National Park, the drive descends through Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, Olmsted Point, and the upper Yosemite high country before continuing into Yosemite Valley. The final section includes an extended loop through Yosemite Valley’s main roads beneath iconic granite formations including El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall. Morning and late afternoon light during autumn frequently enhance contrast across the valley’s cliffs, forests, and river corridors.
