120年前，1905年4月，1033名韩国人从大韩帝国的济物浦港（今仁川）出发，远渡重洋抵达墨西哥尤卡坦半岛，成为剑麻种植园里的劳工。他们就是墨西哥第一批韩国移民。后来，有人参加了墨西哥革命，有人远赴危地马拉投身革命，还有一些人漂洋过海抵达古巴，成为古巴的第一批韩国移民。这段传奇故事启发了多部韩国艺术作品的诞生，如金英夏的小说《黑色花》，电影《灰叶剑麻》《时间之舞》等。在本集 Vlog 中，我走进梅里达的街头与博物馆，重访这段在中文世界鲜为人知的历史。

In April 1905, 120 years ago, 1,033 Koreans departed from Chemulpo Port (modern-day Incheon) of the Korean Empire, crossing the ocean to arrive in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. They became laborers in the henequen plantations and the first Korean immigrants to Mexico. Some later joined the Mexican Revolution, others went to Guatemala, and some crossed the sea again to Cuba, becoming the first Korean immigrants there as well. This remarkable chapter of history inspired numerous Korean works of art, such as Kim Young-ha’s novel Black Flower, and the films Henequen and Dance of Time. In this vlog, I walk through the streets and museums of Mérida, retracing a history still little known in the Chinese-speaking world.

En abril de 1905, hace 120 años, 1,033 coreanos partieron del puerto de Chemulpo (actual Incheon) en el Imperio de Corea, cruzando el océano hasta llegar a la península de Yucatán, México. Se convirtieron en trabajadores de las haciendas de henequén y en los primeros inmigrantes coreanos en México. Algunos más tarde participaron en la Revolución Mexicana, otros se unieron a movimientos revolucionarios en Guatemala, y algunos más cruzaron el mar hasta Cuba, convirtiéndose también en los primeros inmigrantes coreanos en la isla. Esta historia inspiró varias obras artísticas coreanas, como la novela Flor negra de Kim Young-ha y las películas Henequén y El baile del tiempo. En avril 1905, il y a 120 ans, 1 033 Coréens ont quitté le port de Chemulpo (aujourd’hui Incheon) dans l’Empire coréen, pour traverser l’océan jusqu’à la péninsule du Yucatán, au Mexique. Ils sont devenus ouvriers dans les plantations de sisal et les premiers immigrants coréens au Mexique. Certains ont ensuite participé à la révolution mexicaine, d’autres se sont rendus au Guatemala, et quelques-uns ont traversé la mer jusqu’à Cuba, devenant les premiers Coréens immigrés sur l’île. Cette histoire méconnue a inspiré plusieurs œuvres coréennes, comme le roman Fleur noire de Kim Young-ha, ainsi que les films Le henequen et La danse du temps.
